Measuring it at the wheel hub nut just requires the diff ratio to be taken into account, so (using Ashcroft test numbers) the 20Nm for 25 degrees of rotation in 1 minute at the output shaft translates to around 10 degrees of wheel rotation at the hub nut at around 70Nm

I note Ashcrofts reckon the units last about a 100k miles (well, I guess they would :) ). Mine's at 150k and never been replaced as far as I know!

During my ownership of a '93 RRC I used to carry out the 'turning test' occasionally (rather than wait for the signs) & found the VCU starting to seize at around 90k.

Bob on my friend bob on. ;)

In total with gasket sealer it was £460, the deposit was £75 which I should get back. A lot of dosh but I didn't want to go down the unknown mileage route of a flea bay used one. Just part of P38 life!

No I just used a brass drift and hammer and it came apart quite easy and back together the same, just taking care not to damage anything and it all went well, I had the use of a 4 post ramp so was able to do it without removing the X member and as my front prop shaft was already off I had it done in half a day.

Cool. I'll bear that in mind for when mine inevitably gives up the ghost.
