Ok so today we tried fixing some old Ford seats to the seat box. Finally decided to go for modern seats for safety reasons with head rest etc. also fabricated a system where the seat anchor rails tuck into a hoop in the front and is bolted down at the back (with a hand tightenable knob) so that you can quickly unbolt the back, tilt the seat forward and unhook it from the hoops in front and access the tool box or cuby under the left/centre seat as seen in the pic (also fabricated to fit just over the gear box). tried a dark shade of green on the bulkhead as well. Also pasted a one inch thick high density rubber sheet faced with aluminium foil on the bulkhead and foot wells. this will also go under the gear box tunnel and tool box to keep the heat/noise/vibrations out. Will also use it in the doors and roof.

since ive decided to upholster the roof, ive welded thin sheets of MS and nuts to the side wall and upper windshield frame that bolt to the roof. this will allow me to unscrew the bolts from inside without having to spanner the nut from the other side (since i wont have access once the upholstery is in place). ive done the same for the outer safari roof fixings.

i know the modern seats and aluminium foil must be bringing up the bile for many of you puritans but this is an absolute must as ambient temperatures in summer can go to 45 deg C here. believe me its taken much thought and soul searching for me.

Ok heres some history of the car. The vehicle was imported by the Photo Interpretation cell of the National remote Sensing Agency, Dehra Dun, in approx Oct 69, registered 22 Oct 69. Panels show original paint Grey Blue (now white). The Chassis is4211169 G and the original petrol engine was 24105605-A but was retro fitted with a LR diesel of 1968 number 90673507c in 1997 (is it a 2.25 ltr?). The vehicle has just been used for a British film "West is west" (a follow on to East is East, starring Om Puri. some of you may have seen it around 1997) being shot in India to recreate 1950s India.

heres some pics of the padding on the bulkhead and some putty work.

Ok so we finally completely rebuilt a new tail board of sheet and used the original ribs and attachments. I think i will place some chequered anti skid sheets in between the ribs to prevent scuffing the paint work. Then we did the rear seats which will be traditional folding bench seats. the original aluminium Birmabright sheet from the tailboard we used to make the cubby box under the centre seat and its hinged cover and then we threw all the hinges into the fire to get the paint of, built a new bonnet locking hasp and used the original turn buckle from under the passenger side seat and trial fitted it to the radiator /grill panel (to prevent the battery from being stolen!!). Ground some of the POs botched welding in the bulkhead area as well to get it ready for painting. Slow but steady:frusty
