i hav an 02 freelander v6 petrol 65,000miles its been a interesting rover since i bought it ,,same sh!t coolant problems and u name it but i fixed all of that crap..about 15 thousand ago,,,any hadnt had a prob sence woke up yesterday on a turkey hangover after driveing about 26 miles on turkey day
the rover cranks but wont start frist thing i chked was timming belts there on and spinning but i was releived to find that it had compression, and fuel pressure,,,upon further diag found has no spark,,,from my exp..this lead me to the crank sensor ,,but not sure ,,i read that it should have a 5 volts to the sensor,,,havent ched it yet ,,becuase it only has 1 wire it has me confused,,can anyone help or maybe give sum advise,, i think since it has only has one wire ,,it might be simple and im tring to make it a little harder ,,please help if the sensor is good then were nexted pcm??????????????????help help help

Hi, Just had a look at the V6 wiring diag and the crank sensor should have 3 wires :1 to earth and 2 to ECU. Hope this helps.D..

i quess im lookin at the wrong sensor,,,is the ckp sensor located were u can see it near the c:pully or is it behind the timming cover ,,,,can u email me the diagram if possible,,,( [email protected] ) weird the sensor that is visible to me is maybe 1 inch from cpully ....thx man just trying to get her running again....any insight would be help full,,,,,may the ref voltage specs any thing its picking my brain i hav a pic that i can show u

This might help

thx alot found the sensor it not fun to get to ,,,i have chked everything fuel pressure compression and just found no spark i might have to just buy the ckp and swap it i hope this is my fix if its not i am screwed i think does it sound like the fix it does to me thx alot please dont give up on on my rover thx for the info if u could find the sensor ref voltage that would determine for me ,,,,,,ckp sit close to a minor oil leak cleaning it might be my temp fix,,,,but with out the ref voltage im throwing parts my pocket a little dry
thx rich

Either the crankshaft or camshaft position sensors will prevent the engine starting. As they both work on the same principle the voltages etc might be the same for both, you could try comparing them and if they are alot different one could be faulty. I'm only guessing but as they are semiconductor switches, one wire should be power , one earth and the other a transister switch output which should vary as you put it against some metal and take it away.( the power may be less than 12 volts so dont try it straight on your battery , alot of electronic work on 5 volts)

thx the bad thing is it didnt set the mil light on so im leaning,,,now towards cam sensor,,,at frist i read if the ckp goes the car would hav stopped ,,,,it drove fin didnt notice a thing till i tried to start the nexted day,,,,is the cmp more common than the ckp...
