    MOT diesel testing

I am surprised that the tester used a pointed crowbar, I thought that they were only allowed to use the approved testing tools....to tap and probe without causing damage.

    MOT diesel testing

Thx for this......I do go to a local village garage.....I shall advise him that the engine is newly rebuilt and see what he says. It does pose a question though. Anything over 3 years old with a rebuilt engine could be caused serious damage. I might limit the revs on the throttle stop for good...

    MOT diesel testing

Yesterday I collected my 19J from being rebored and the crank reground. So when it is all finished I will have to get an MOT. The 110 is a 1989 model. The engine will be virtually new and have zero miles. How much damage will be done on the emissions test. I assume that the tester will want to...

    110 Springs

    Thanks for that.

    110 Springs

I am about to fit new springs to front and rear axles. Both sets have closer coils at one end..........could some please advise if the close coils are fitted to the top or bottom. My manual just states to note which way round they are on removal.....I didn't.

    Paint colour

Thx for this. I guess that the roof and wheels are white and not limestone.

    110 Chassis

Yes, I intend to cut out the section that has the VIN number on it. What do I tell DVLA. I have the new chassis number, it is lasered all over and cleverly in some very inaccessible places.....does this replace the SALL............number.

    110 Chassis

One for the black museum and may help buyers to see where potential rust problems are. Only the front axle and steering box to remove and can then start building up on the new chassis. And the new chassis.........

    Paint colour

Can somebody tell me what blue this is on the 'Vera 90' The higher authority wants my 110 this colour.

    200TDI Oil pressure

I certainly would change the cam bearings.....it looks like a load of swarf has gone through them. I am surprised that LR cam bearings need line boring after fitting.....although it is clearly stated in the manual. Other non LR engines that I have worked on they are the correct size when pressed...

    19J

I should get my block and crankshaft back next week from rebored and ground. Are there any modifications that I should be considering when building it up?

    200TDI Oil pressure

Was your tickover speed very low?

    200TDI Oil pressure

Have you checked the suction side of the oil pump to see if it is sucking air. Are the camshaft bearings good. I would double check the main bearing clearances, you can get an idea by cutting a strip on thin paper, the thickness of which you can measure with a micrometer and trapping it between...

    200TDI Oil pressure

That certainly won't help. I should measure the radial clearances between the gear teeth/rotor and the casing, if that is excessive it won't help either. In any case, I would not put it back with that amount of end float. It is sometimes possible to machine the casing to restore the correct end...

    Windscreen

I have just had to have a new screen in my L200. It was done by National Windscreens through my insurance. I had to take it to their workshop 15 miles away as it has a forward facing camera and some reprograming was needed. I asked the guy if he could fit one in my Defender, not through the...

    110 body off?

I took my 110 body off in pieces, roof, rear tub, seat box, front wings and bulkhead. The biggest problem I had was rusted and seized nuts and bolts. This is what will take the time. If you are going to keep it then bite the bullet and fit a new chassis. Attached is the current state of...

    200TDI Oil pressure

If it isn't the bearings then it is most likely associated with the oil pump. May be the pressure relief valve is not on its seat or the spring weak. Obscure but been known is a collapsed oil filter.

    200TDI Oil pressure

In my experience a big difference in oil pressure between hot and cold is usually down to worn main bearings. Did you have the crank reground or just fit new shells........are the shells correct for the crank journal size?

    Bent Conrod

So today was spent renewing the valve guides.......not a problem.....and then trying to remove number 4 piston and conrod. The rod was bent to such an extent that it would not pass up the bore. The width of the bigend is only 1mm smaller than the diameter of the bore. Any way, I managed to...

    19J engine

Thx for this. I have decided to rebuild what I have got as I have collected all of the parts that I need. If, however, I come across something nasty then I will have to reconsider another engine.....
