Thanks for the photo, everything seems to be the same on mine. Just thought it would be an easy thing to miss when I rebuilt it.
Not much oil came out,but it was draining for several days before I stripped it.
Will keep going.
 
I think the lowering of the oil pressure when engine warm is normal and will be due not just with the oil thinning but also Coincides with the oil thermostat in the filter unit Opening which diverts oil through the oil cooler , on my Di I don’t have a cooler But still have the pressure drop
Can you test your oil pressure sensor with air pressure to see what pressure that activates something like a foot pump see it’s not set incorrect

Mine continues to drop the more I drive it which is what is worrying me. Did have the oil light flash at idle after about 3 hours greenlaning after rebuilding my engine,but at the time I didn't have the pressure gauge.
I just want to make sure it's right so I can always rely on it.

I was just thinking about this comment where it came on , long shot but if it comes on at 20 psi or at a higher pressure than expected you may not have a serious low pressure problem
 
Camshafts out, and there are several points as far I can tell.
First of all,there is a flat machined onto the end of the camshaft bearing journal which I assume feeds the thrust plate on the end of the cam. Does anyone know if this is right,as far as I can tell it would drop oil pressure.
After removing the camshaft, the bearings look pretty rough.I got them fitted and line bored by my local engine builder at the time, but I couldn't check they had machined them correct as I had no means of measuring them accurately.
Last point is that it appears one of the bearing shells has spun slightly,as the oil hole is not lined up quite right which want the case when I built it.
Sorry about the long post, seems I've opened another can of worms.

Thanks for the response, I will check the pressure switch but I can't remember whether that's the same one as when it flashed on that time,I've changed things so many times.

I agree the cam bearings look a bit rough, I don’t know if they would come like this From a competent engine builder although @jamesmartin might know

the oil for the rocker shaft goes around the cam groove under oil pump pressure,bearings are rough but not that old ,poor parts or fitting

Good to know that the flat bit on the cam is meant to be there,can rule it out.
I was told the engine builder was quite good,but starting to doubt that now.
They do seem to have worn quite unevenly as well.
I supplied them the Glyco shells, they fitted them and machined them.
 
I certainly would change the cam bearings.....it looks like a load of swarf has gone through them. I am surprised that LR cam bearings need line boring after fitting.....although it is clearly stated in the manual. Other non LR engines that I have worked on they are the correct size when pressed in. Why dont you get new bearings and press them in and see if the shaft fits.....if not then its the machine shop.

If we are looking for something obscure then what about if the oil pressure relief plunger is sticking open when hot, or its not seating properly, the wrong one or the spring is suspect.

Looks like the whole of the forum is running out of ideas....as frustrating as it must be it has certainly prompted lots of suggestions.

the line boring part of the manual goes back to the early series landys ,the bearings have been produced sized for decades

I am beginning to think it might not be just one major issue, but several small things that added together take it out of its comfort zone.
Oil pump gears right at their max clearance, yes in spec but max spec.
Cam bearings pretty sorry state, tbh if it was mine and the oil pressure was fine beforehand I would reuse, but in your caes you need to eliiminate every possibility.

Did you post a pic of the mains/big end shells?

That bearing shell not lining up 100 percent with block drilling wont be a problem.
 
Here's a photo of a big end and main Bearing shell, they are all in the same sort of condition.
I'm very grateful for all the suggestions I've had on the forum, the response has been amazing.

I'm not ready to give up on it just yet, I've done almost everything else on it so it's just this left. For now.
I think I need to have a think about what the next best option is now.
