So it's been on my drive for six years now waiting for time and money but with five children I get neither!
So. Instead of a new chassis I'm going to fix it and paint it.
So what I'm asking is this.
Is doing it on a drive way do-able.
I can't lift the body of so I'm going to have to strip it down and store it.
How long for just me to strip it roughly. I know we all work in different speeds but I'm not into "I did it this fast"
Just a reasonable time.
I know it's going to be ardious so any shortcuts would be appreciated.

Very Doab able Mate . Its been there 6 years so it aint going anywhere fast, so you can just take your time and do it as fast or as slow as you want to. Been on 2 and a half years with mine and so close to finishing it now and Im quite thick when it comes to mechanical things, My mates thought I was Mad when I first started but they are all amazed at what Ive done now. So the best advice I can give you is if you get stuck just ask on here. There is a lot of very honest and knowledgeable people on here who will go out of there way to help you. .
One thing I can tell you is when you take it apart take pics of everything, and keep the nuts , bolts and fixings so you know where they go back and what sizes to get. Thats one thing I couldn't do as I bought mine in bits.
It will be arduous but you will enjoy every minute of it, well almost, and will be worth it at the end.

Some good tips their thanks. I will certainly take note..

And make sure you label ALL electrical joints with something that don't fade or fall off, even if your sure you can remember what goes where.

I've done lots on the 300tdi's so know my way around them a fair bit .
I will take photos to remember
My worry is the rain while it's apart.
I'm hoping to do the chassis completely.. Axels off as well. Am I better just leaving the wheels on and rolling out or stripping.
The front one was damaged in the accident so i have a replacement already.
 
Leave the axles on to roll round & you don’t have to bend to much for when welding the top/sides. once done remove axles & put on side.

don’t forget if your doing photos have a direction indicator to help build & position

I have got a b and q trolley that I stole quite a few years ago. That might come in handy too

Sell it and use the money to get a lesser but complete road ready defender or a 90/110.
I like this one although it doesn't most of its life in Scotland on a farm so it's not in the best shape.

What is the chassis like, go over it with a screwdriver and see exactly how bad it is.
You may find it needs a new one as the old one is just finished.
Mine was also a farm vehicle. There was nothing left of the chassis when I looked.
The rear cross member snapped off when I jacked it up there.
I was able to put a hammer through all the way from front to back of the chassis.

It wasn't to bad. I had just spent the previous summer doing a lot of welding on it. I put a HD 6mm rear crossmember on made by pressbrake.
And welded the bottoms of the chassis.
All the rust is due to it being stood with no washing on for 7 year. (I checked, the accident was July 2013!)
The doors are really bad though.
I can't Believe the chassis are now over 3k to buy. Back when i had this accident they were £1500 for a richards.
I'm looking to do it next year I think as I promised my wife I would get the bathroom gutted and redone.

I took my 110 body off in pieces, roof, rear tub, seat box, front wings and bulkhead. The biggest problem I had was rusted and seized nuts and bolts. This is what will take the time. If you are going to keep it then bite the bullet and fit a new chassis.
Attached is the current state of mine.....new chassis here next week....hopefully it will then start to look better.

I've been holding out for a new chassis for 7 years, that's the main reason it's not been done. I just don't have 3.5k for a new galv one and if I ain't in 7 years I don't think it's going to happen so I'm just going to have to fix this one. I don't really want to lose my HD Crossmember anyway.
I've been speaking to buzzweld and they have this special lance and spray which permiates the inside of the chassis and kills the rust and puts a coating on it to stop it rusting. And the outside they have a well.
They do a lot for £360 which does the whole chassis inside and out and their reviews look spot on. (outside painted as well)
That means I will have money spare for the body and doors. Maybe even a central locking kit, front leccy Windows, cubby box and a shelf thing on the roof like my disco has at the moment.
I already have another front Axle for it.
Need a new weld on radius arm mount and body cappings. All four doors need attention and I think I will spray all the panels before reassembly.
I would like a new roof as well to lose the sunroof
That all sounds like a lot of work and some wishful thinking..... Lol
 
So I got under it this morning and it isn't looking good. I'll put some photos on but there are holes around thee of the radius arm mounts and rust all over which is coming off quite thick with paint. I think it's seen its day.... I am pretty good with a welder so does anyone think its fixable?
 
Are the tdci/puma chassis any good and apart from the engine mounts and rear Crossmember is there anything else that would have to be modified on one for a 300tdi csw 110
 

That’s scrap. I replaced mine that was in a MUCH better condition. You can’t weld to rust, so you will end up replacing more than you save. Instead of wasting money on ****e like central locking and electric windows, spend it on bits that actually make the vehicle safe, eg the chassis. Buzz weld can say what they want about “converting rust and stopping it” but if it was real and actually done what it says on the tin, imagine the money they would make. Timeless issue of rust, cured by magic paint.
