If you're only 19 have you checked not only the price of Gaylander Diesels, but the insurance as well. One of the cheapest cars for a 19 year old to insure is actually a Defender, and for 2 grand you can get a half decent-but-slightly-agricultural one. You could try looking at a Suzuki Vitara...

Considering for £1200 you can get a fully refurbed short engine from Turners with a 12 month warranty, £700 sounds OK. I'd rather buy a scrapper for £300 and do it myself...

The R380 is a completely new design and they needed a lighter oil and originally specced ATF. However problems arose, and from November 2001 ALL R380 boxes, including existing ones must only use Texaco MTF-94 or equivalent. Do a search on here for the equivalent part numbers fer a lot less...

You used to be able to get it from Army surplus places, but new EU regulations mean it's a controlled toxic product not for domestic use. Go figure...

Just on the off chance, try draining the fluid and cleaning out the filter underneath the box. If this is clogged up it will cause drive problems. Cheapest and easiest solution first?
