Hello,

How much would you be prepared to pay for a fully refurbished 200tdi disco engine? Please answer regarding how much you would seriously expect to be paying on ebay for a similar item, as opposed to how much you would wish to be paying personally.

Refurb includes new pistons and rings, bores deglazed, new bearings, new oil seals, new timing belt, new push rods, all new gaskets and filters. Coming without intercooler, gearbox and power steering pump etc.

I'm just trying to get an idea for a Summer project
Cheers,

I got meself a donor Disco wiv 200Tdi for £315. The Dento (as it has been nicknames as there isn't a straight panel on it including the roof) runs well and smoothly and starts without any heating of the plugs or smoke, so I am assuming the engine is pretty good.
New Cam belt kit and clutch is going in, then pull out the 2.5TD and slap in the 200Tdi. Might also swap the transfer box.
Nothing on the 200Tdi looks any harder than the 2.5NA ot 2.5TD, it's having the time to do it that is the hardest.

Considering for £1200 you can get a fully refurbed short engine from Turners with a 12 month warranty, £700 sounds OK. I'd rather buy a scrapper for £300 and do it myself...

I wouldn't pay more than £500. £600 if you get a decent warranty. I only paid £450 for my replacement 300tdi engine. I sold my knackered one for the same. £200 for the head and £250 for the block. I also kept the starter, alternator, turbo, fuel pump, vacuum pump for spares.

I'd rather do it meself so as I know exactly what's in there. Would only buy a "refurbished" engine if it was from someone who was prepared to back up their work with a proper warranty. Would steer well clear of one "rebuilt" by some grease monkey trying to make a fast buck.

TDis should easily do 400,000 without much going wrong, just get one with under 100K on it and there'll be no need to refurbish it - you should get one for not much more than a coupla hundred notes!

Yel have to rebore it to make it worthwhile project pos, for all it costs, why put new pistons into old bores. And replace the oil pump, and get the injection pump looked at, and injectors, and do all the valves and seals etc, and grind the crank, head skimmed and tested.

And remember to keep all the invoices.

Remember with all the work required to get it replaced into the doner vehicle if it fooks up, ees gona be lookin fur yer balls. So make sure you get it right, if the head is iffy and it overheats and fooks it it's a lot of dosh wasted.

You wont get away with what you did to yours unfortunatly, but if there is demand then yes go for it, but do it right.

Thanks for all the replies!

The ideas was to buy an engine to rebuild and then re-sell, not to use for myself just in case some of you got the wrong end of the stick!

I might go ahead with it yet, might not, dunno!
