Can anyone identify what these are for...?

What little I can offer, is when I had my rear cross member replaced, the outer edge bolts went through the bottom end of the bracket. I.e. the bottem end of the bracket is bolted firmly to your rear cross member and is visible at the bottom or the rear arch behind the rear wheel. At a guess...

    A friend indeed!

Great. Many thanks guys. Its the transfer box he's asked me to help him with, so thanks for the comments. Yes I agree he really should do all the fluids whilst he's at it. Like the idea of 'teaching' and letting him get covered in oil:D

    A friend indeed!

Hello leafers:):) Friend of mine has a 1974 Series 3, petrol, unleaded. That's about the limit of his knowledge on Land Rovers. He's had it about 5 years, not used often and not been serviced since he's owned it. He's asked me to help him change his tranny oil. Can I assume its much like my...

    Hand Brake Adjustment

As they said, but yes, I'd watch how much you wind up the adjuster or you could come off the end of the thread. The handbrake shoes don't wear like hub break shoes (at least on my 300tdi). They only lock up at park, and rub a bit. Cable stretch sounds more likely than shoe wear. IMHO:) Adjust at...

    Hand Brake Adjustment

Ok, cheers. I now realise the problem I had was the adjuster had been backed right off so when the hand brake was applied, the threaded section was pulled through the rubber and was getting stuck there when the hand brake was released, hence the lever springing back up. Thightening it up appear...

    Hand Brake Adjustment

So, new cable has arrived. Looking at a nice clean shiney one in daylight! Looks like the adjuster is the nut and cone thingumy and the other nut, partly covered by the rubber cable outer is just to hold the cable whilst tightening the cone/nut. Hmmm. Still looks a bit odd cause the...

    Dodgy Handbrake

Found this on LR4x4: "I had this last year (first time saying that), and it is the hand brake cable getting stuck when the plastic linning sheath becomes knackered. Change it now, as it will just get stuck on fully soon, and then your in the poo. Carry a hack saw with you and when it happens...

    Dodgy Handbrake

Cheers fella. I started another thread after cleaning up and replacing the shoes and springs. Looks like I may have a issue with an ageing cable.

    Hand Brake Adjustment

That just adjusts the shoes not the cable. The 'cone' is at the handbrake lever just behind the seat base panel. Cheers for the thoughts though.:)

    Hand Brake Adjustment

Bit of a dumb question I think. Just cleared half of Borden out of me handbrake drum, cleaned it up and put new shoes and spings in while I was there. Not sure how to correctly adjust the cable though:confused: See pic below from Rave. The 'cone' No. 9 is wielded to the nut. This was about...

    Dodgy Handbrake

Hey, not dissing your advice dude. Just my logic suggests if I tighten up the cable at the adjuster, it will just pull the handbrake lever higher up as the problem is probably muck in the drum not allowing the shoes to back off and allow the handbrake to fully return to rest. Is my logic...

    Dodgy Handbrake

Don't see the point. The drum has gota have half a kilo of sticky sand in it. The Lever does'nt get tight till about 7 clicks, i.e. vertical:eek: New pads and springs just arrived in post. Another Saturday under the Landy comming up:D p.s. If I get my hand onto the cable adjuster, just as...

    Dodgy Handbrake

For some odd reason my handbrake lever keeps springing back up a couple of notches after I try and release it. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I spent most of bank holiday weekend up to my floor pan in quicksand down at Bordon. Having considered the possible cause of the...

how to tell if genuine county station wagon

I've got a genuine CSW, so I am reliably informed by my local indie, but that is not reflected in the VIN. He recons it was not uncommon for some landies to be Vin'd up but change final construction type towards the end of production, due to what was on the order books for example. It also...

    Side Exit Exhaust - Again

Right, me widget is made (pic to follow) and me flexi hose has arrived. Nearly ready to give it a go. Need your help though. I really need some sort of heat gasket between the outer ring and the body panel to reduce the heat transfer from the pipe. Been searching for hours and cant find...

    Side Exit Exhaust - Again

I hear you there WL. I'm hoping the flexi pipe can handle it. I'm begining to think this will be more sucessfull at the end of the run than mid field. Need to get under the old girl!, could be as small a change as connecting the last wee bit after the tail pipe rubber mount then up to the...
