    my cars gone

Max mpg on my auto TD4 was 35 even with a synergy and new MAF, synergy was set at 6 which was the best economy setting for the Pierburg MAF. My old Discovery would never get better than 25 mpg.

    EGR valve v EML

Typical money grabbing garage, buy the cheapest and sod the customer, think I'd be asking for the cost of the original pump to be refunded.

    EGR valve v EML

Took me about 2 hours as I had to cut off the bracket bolts and replace all the rotted rivets, the whole lot, pump and filter was only held in place by the pipework.

    EGR valve v EML

Find out where the pump came from, £165 fitted is really cheap if a genuine or OE pump was fitted, OE pumps cost about £125 plus 1 hours labour which would be much more than the price you were charged. Cheaper pumps are known to be noisy and suffer premature failure.

New freelander owner with a vcu question

If the VCU is cold after a run this would indicate to me that it's locked up and not slipping, I would change it for a Bells recon unit.

    Love my Freelander!

Wish I'd had my Freelander when we went over the Gotthard back in the late seventies when driving a Ford consul 2.5 litre and towing a caravan. Turned out they'd closed the pass due to heavy snow but being a bit thick I presumed the snow chain signs had been left over from the winter, thought...

Help - Freelander Not Very Well.

At that sort of mileage I'd have changed the fuel pump at the same time I'd changed the fuel filter ( OEM or genuine part only) You could try unplugging the MAF and see if the fault clears, if it does this points to a faulty MAF.

    sad day

Traded mine in couple of months ago for a 2010 model Peugeot 308SW 2.0 litre auto. Great car with 7 seats and room for dog in back. Got £3300 for Freelander. Still got to sell the Synergy, unused tyre, dog guard, rear door seal and boot liner due to being unable to get in the bloomin garage.

    egr problem or something else?

Intake air under pressure from turbo leaks out of split in hose which results in incorrect fuel/air mixture. Black smoke is unburned fuel.

Just been to look at a FL1

Traded my 55 reg F1 in couple of months ago max price I could get was £3200 and that was against a £13000 VW. Dealers didn't really want to know even though all the usual premature failure items had been replaced.

    Help urgently needed

Must be a labour of love, think I'd have got rid when you first noticed the corrosion at the start of your thread. Good job you can do it yourself as the cost for labour must be considerably more than the car is worth, bit like Wheeler Dealers.

    Random but very important question

Can you get a pair of mole grips between the spring when the weights off, gripping the inner shocker rod ?

I must be missing a seat

What you're referring to is black oil, usually three different grades, light medium and heavy. Light is used for shipping as it can be burned without pre heating, medium and heavy are used in industry, including power stations, and must be pre heated before burning.

    Freelander TD4 Black smoke!!!

Max revs when stationary is usually restricted to 3000 rpm, plus the engine isn't under load.

    Freelander TD4 Black smoke!!!

    Rover 75 1.8 turbo engine

Yes they do, the one I owned blew the gasket twice before I got rid.

    Dog guards

I've got one like that also for sale but it's for the 5 door and fits behind the seats.

    tyre question

The Chinese tyres I bought were called Roadstones, seems a good tyre and recommended by local tyre fitting company, as they have plenty of Chinese imports to chose from I took their advice, £80 each fitted.

    Urgent help needed

Diesel doesn't evaporate at ambient that's why storage tanks don't have floating roofs like petrol storage tanks have.
