Hi guys, need a quick answer please, I planned on doing an oil change this morning but for the life of me I can't get the under tray off, the plastic bit was riveted on the sides and I've undone the bolts at the back but I'm fooked if I can get it off at the front-it seems stuck down, any ideas?, also I did try a search on here but got nowhere fast.

its all on here somewhere.............

there are 4 screws along the leading edge and 1 bolt at each of the (front) sides - these 2 bolts are a bit awkward to get at but a socket with extension does the trick even though the front plastic bumper needs bending back a bit

then there are 4 botls at the rear (2 each corner) and finally 2 (10mm i think) bolts that hold the rear of the shield to a cross member

But yes - its a real pain !!

for future oil changes you can cut a hole in the plastic
 
Common mistake you need to remove the larger complete under tray unit ?

So 6 x 13mm bolts , 6 x screws , 2 x 10mm bolts to remove .
The screws were rusty & chewed up and I had to cut slots in to remove them , Now replaced with stainless steel one's !

BTW - goggle search for " freelander undertray " had all the pictures / info needed in 10 seconds ;)

Cheers guys, I tried a search on here but the stress level had ramped up considerably and I got in a right tangle using the search facility, never gave google a thought.
Tray now off thankfully but gonna delay oil change until tomorrow.
One other question....when I was taking off the air filter cover I noticed there was an in line filter hanging down behind the engine, it was connected to a small bore pipe at one end but not at the other, can anyone tell me what this is for and if it should be connected to something?, I won't use the car until I know what it is.

It's the turbo vent filter and is correct as it is , Replace if it looks dirty ?
 
Nice one thanks mate, I'm not at home at the moment but after putting the tools away for the day I drove it back down from my workshop to park it on the drive way, got cleaned up and went to go out in 'er indoors car and noticed patches of oil under mine freshly dropped, all I've done this morning is change the air filter and the crankcase oil breather filter plus remove the tray under the engine, I'm hoping I've just left the oil filler cap undone and it's not something related to putting the new oil breather filter on.
 
Update, wasn't oil but diesel...upon checking under the bonnet I discovered I'd not connected a pipe properly near the oil breather filter housing, took an age but I cleaned up as much fuel as I could get to, there's bound to be a small amount in nooks and crannies but is there any danger of that fuel igniting when the engine gets hot? Or will it evaporate?

Diesel wont ignite it burns different to petrol where petrol uses a spark to ignite diesel engines squash it for what of a better term and use a glow plug (sorry forgot proper terminology as in still in bed lol)
