Head gasket or oil cooler broken ??

My 10p worth. No it doesn't sound great but dont be too hard on the garage, the symptoms you described would make most engineers say "head gasket" and to be fair, it needed looking at first. Maybe the oil cooler can mix the oil and water yes, but its not such a common fault. Its also possible...

    Clutch Slave cylinder pushrod thingy

Hi Has anyone ever tried to refit the plastic clip on the clutch arm, the one that holds the slave cylinder push-rod in position. Easy yes, with the gearbox out, Bloody tricky with the gearbox in. Here is a trick I worked out for doing the job through the slave cylinder mounting hole...

Are the old range rovers better than the p38?

As soon as you introduce electronics then reliability is going to be an issue as vehicles get older. loose plugs, corrosion, water... An old classic on carbs will be reliable. Same goes for your road car, my "06" focus has let me down already with a sensor failing.

    lt777 gearbox

A tripple 7, very rare. LOL Seriously though, I dont have experience of the "plastic thingy" but if it goes it sometimes but not others do you notice if the gear lever refuses to move to the correct possition? it would be a clue.. As for rebuilding it with the legs kit, i think you first...

    Disco 1 Gearbox update

It aint that hard, Im still doing mine 'cos its too bleedin cold to be out there too long, but if you know its just a clutch that you need you can just drop the gearox onto the cross member and make enough room to work without all the lifting. I took my gearbox out 'cos I was convinced the box...

Yes, so why is she being advised to remove the starter? That was my point. But does it turn over from her own battery is also a good clue here.

    Disco 1 Gearbox update

Well I took my old one around to Craddocks today and I looked at the britpart one there, I can say that my original had different markings and numbers to the Britpart, also different coloured steel pressings so I dont think that the one I took out was a Britpart.. But not original...

Hang on a bit, before we start stripping it down, is the Engine turning over? if yes then its hardly going to be the starter and if no then its not fuel..

    3.5efi V8- cam/chain/lifters

Yes it is that easy. But do check the rockers for play on the rocker shafts, they are cheap to replace too, and take notice when refitting the valley gasket, its a real pain when they leak in the apex.

    3.5efi V8- cam/chain/lifters

I've done the 3.5 carb engine in my Range Rover, Long time ago but it was straightforward, nothing you couldnt do yourself. Just pay attention to the manual when re-fitting the valley gasket or you will get leaks. But do you realy need a cam? Often the ticking noise is just worn followers...
