200tdi issues - the bad luck has to end soon right?

I would suspect air in the fuel system. No matter what the weather I always start my 200 TDI without glow plugs. When it's freezing, it starts within a couple of turns. When it's normal, it starts on half a turn. If I use the glows, it starts instantly in freezing temps. The injection pump...

    AT or MT?

That's interesting nobber. I was actually going to ask how do XZL compare to the more modern tyres. I've only ever used XZL's on mine and in my view they provide a good compromise between on and off road performance whilst also being incredibly tough. My only criticisms would be I don't think...

oil leak from gromit on top of head?

I use a little rtv. Degrese the area first with brake cleaner then let it set for a bit.

oil leak from gromit on top of head?

Are you sure it's a diesel leak? Diesel stinks, so you will know if it is!

Classic Land Rover Wiper repair tale

What can possibly go wrong with a system comprising so many cunning, fragile electro mechanical parts?

    200 tdi conversion

Not a lot. The head, injection pump, intact manifold, exhaust manifold are all totally different. The blocks are similar but the 200 has a different flywheel and additional reinforcement at the bottom. Alternator is compatible.

OP seems to have gone. Maybe he pulled out in front of a lorry and one of his half shafts parted company.

This happened today when i was driving, what can i do

Haynes says use loctite. I recently removed my front ones to change discs and they had loctite on them when I took them out. I cleaned the holes with a tap and cleaned the bolts thoroughly before refitting. As Kwakerman says, you can get new bolts with the compound applied. If you're not...

    Light Bar Electric Power Issues

Has it ever worked? If you've revered the wiring, it won't work with a LED light but it would with a conventional bulb. In the absence of any other test equipment, you could test it with one of your existing bulbs.

    Belt and pulleys

Make sure it's not your water pump that's seized causing the belt to jump.

    Labours when starting

Could be fuel draining back if it' turning over a bit. Air leak somewhere.

Sounds like your old plugs were causing a dead short.

    Labours when starting

My old NA was a pig when my heater plugs went on the blink. Used to take a good 10 mins to start :) Half the time the battery would die before it fired. They were indirect technology though. All modern diesels will be direct injection so the heater plugs are only there to assist in emissions...

    Brake issues

After changing my front calipers, I bled my system several times with a one man bleed kit and using the traditional 2 man method but got nowhere. I bought one of these vacuum bleeders off ebay and it's one of the best tools I've bought. I bled the system in a few mins and without any mess and...

    Labours when starting

Check battery connections and main earth. Any poor connections will show more in the cold. I never use the glowplugs on my old 200 TDI, I would be amazed if the TD5 needs them to start. Larger engines don't even have them and they still start :)

    MOT Advisories

You can replace the bushes only. I did it years ago and my shocks are still fine. They press in easily with a vice, g-clamp or even hammer. You don't need any special tools.

    broken door lock

Well I repaired mine today using that kit and it works perfectly again. It's got a much more positive click when locking than it has in my ownership. Lock is dated 1989 so good service if all it needs is a spring in that time. Only took about half an hour.
