The 'screws' are actually those plastic hobbies that push into a fastener. Use a small screwdriver to lever the screw part out and then pull the lot out with your fingers.

I don't know about the fans. As for the temp, I'd say your thermostat is beginning to fail. It should get to 88ºC / 90ºC depending on load.

Mine is a 2006 TD4 Manual. I bought it for £8,500 in June 2012 with 40K miles on the clock. Apart from consumables and mods (limited though they are) I've replaced the tyres, LP fuel pump, the MAF sensor (at the same time as the fuel pump) possibly unnecessarily, the thermostat, track rod ends...
