Disco 1 Do ya ever get the feelin.....

I really want to do the job properly, so its gonna be a heads off & new core plugs in  Now thinking ahead, will I really need to have the heads skimmed before they are re-installed??? Initially I was not gonna remove the heads as when I did a compression test a while ago the reads...

Disco 1 Do ya ever get the feelin.....

You wish you hadn't started........???? Under the Disco today lining up the transfer box for installation, I've had quite a few oil leaks near the back of the engine so I thought I'd clean them off and make it nice & clean for later on when I put everything back together. Just shone the torch...

Disco 1 ATF - Quick question?

Cheers Chris..... Its all in the great plan  :rolleyes: Once its all back together & the g/box & t/box are back in and running ok, the engine is next for a refurb - well the top of it. Then all I've left to do is brakes and a little welding (I hope) before MOT time.

Disco 1 ATF - Quick question?

No, when it was running it engaged fine. I was a bit worried though looking at the colour of the fluid its not been on the road for about 5 years before I bought it so I was surprised it being so brown. Hopefully at weekend everythings going to be put back - Transfer box, new manifolds &...

Disco 1 ATF - Quick question?

Whilst I've been rebuilding the transfer box I thought I might as well do a Auto box drain & replace the filter whilst the exhaust & cross member were off. Now I've just drained the sump of oil and removed said sump to clean it off and repaint the outside face as its rusty as...... I...

Disco 1 Think I've cocked up the Transfer box :-(

 Then it could be ok as it is then? I just don't remember it being as 'notchy' as that when I removed it. Ah well, live & learn. Must admit it frightened me a little, I've read the print off the manual keep thinking I did something wrong. I'll put the cover on then now & .......gulp! summon...

Transfer box rebuilt and ready to install question?

Hooorah!!! finally got it rebuilt and ready to install, but before I do I'm gonna drop the ATF & filter out of the main gearbox, then reattach the transfer box. The question I have is is there any issues in doing a dummy run by just installing the xfer box filling it and then after putting the...

Disco 1 Help Identify this leaking fluid

If its a hole in the radiator, which looking at that photo I can't be certain whether there is a hole in it or not, you'll need a new radiator.

    Transfer box strip down

Well managed to strip it down completely and the dog teeth on the high gear are absolutely knackered. There's bits chewed off quite a few of them and one of them is nearly non-existent. So it seems new high gear time to me, the low gear has hardly any play and the teeth on it show no wear at all.

    Transfer box strip down

Thanks for that raywin, I'm continuing to strip it down to its component parts so I'll bear that in mind, excellent write-up btw, gonna follow that when.....eventually I get to put mine back together. Transfer box strip down

Well, after the rigmarole of removing the bl**dy thing I've now come to disassemble it and I think I've found the culprit of the loud 'CLUNK' going forward to reverse and back :confused::confused:. Now I'm no expert in these matters and have strictly followed the LT230 rebuild manual...
