Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

OK a little more to report!! Fuel tanks. Both had little holes on the front face. I use some of that great plastic steel epoxy stuff and now they are as good as new (I hope it works!)

Series 3 Ex Mil with two under seat tanks....

I think this indicates that you are using the drivers tank.

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Another full day and it really is starting to look like a proper vehicle again! Other spring on. Axle in place. This took some doing on my own! Both shocks on and all U bolts. One of my wheels back from shot blasting and powder coating. Everything in place. Reminds me how much lift the back...

    New owner saying hello

Welcome to one of the friendliest forums on the net! I agree that ideally you recycle nothing and replace with new but I would also argue that to keep within a budget anything saved is a bonus. So far I have renovated all my springs and they seem fine... (total cost £0)

    Series 3 Series 3 Restoration

Go for it. I stripped mine down (1983 Series 3 LWB ex military) and rewelded all the chassis myself. Great fun. I'm now refitting the axles and she's looking like a vehicle again! Two years since getting her!

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Solved my own problem!! I'd fixed the stub axle onto the wrong side of the back plate ( it was getting late!!!) and you can't really assemble this bit without it being attached to the axle! It should give me another inch or two which will allow the drum to drop to the correct depth.

Giving an old S3 army girl a new lease of life

Dear All, Here we go again with daft questions but........ Putting the rear axle back together after being dragged away camping in Derbyshire (it rained everyday). Putting the brakes in was fine, with the usual help from you lot but now that I've put the drum on I have rather a large gap...

    Welding chassis

Looks a little worse than mine was. The most I had to contend with was this!

    Welding chassis

16 week welding night school course cost me £350. Second hand kit cost me £140. Chassis now all back together and solid. And I've got the skills (??) and the kit for further projects!!

    What are these?

They were in the back of a 1976 Series 3 lwb which I was breaking. I don't think that they came off it though, they look more train or traction engine to me. They are mirror images of each other and one has a part number stamp U221 and the other U222. They only thing that I can find that has...

    Axle Straps

Just bought new straps for my ex military 109. But they seem shorter by about 2 inches. Is this because they are new and not stretched?
