Just had a quote for welding chassis in a few areas mainly front for £450 not sure if it's good or bad or how much work is involved, any recommendations in Bolton/Manchester area

If you are thinking of spending THAT much on a repair? You might want to consider a galvanized replacement which are available from for example Richards chassis for approx 1100 pounds if the front is THAT bad chances are the rear is not going to be much better regards. Chris
Agreed... in my experience, the rear tends to be worse as little oil gets splashed about at the back .... but of course, you may have had the rear fixed last MOT or whatever...

I too would be looking at a new chassis, or learning to weld if it isn't in bad condition, only cost effective to do a chassis swap if you can do the work yourself though, I should imagine the cost of a garage doing the swap would be pretty huge.
the comfort of knowing your chassis is brand new, solid and will out last you if looked after would be worth the cost of having it done.

£450 is alot but most of that will be labour and 20% will be vat
As has been said it depends what the rest of your chassis is like ,but you can get a decent welding set up for £250 and then you can keep the welder when your finished !
To buy and pay a garage to fit a new chassis should cost around £3k so if you couldnt do it yourself (look at doms recent thread) then that may be out of reach

16 week welding night school course cost me £350. Second hand kit cost me £140. Chassis now all back together and solid. And I've got the skills (??) and the kit for further projects!!

Galvanised Replacement will be well over 1000 then fitting..............I can see some logic but if you were going to swap the chassis properly just the volume of shearings/replacements/ Other jobs (A frame bush etc)....which would push the cost up massively, it would be silly not to do them.

you'll never get the money back, so it depends on how long you want to keep it for. forever, then get a new chassis..else patch.

Looks a little worse than mine was. The most I had to contend with was this!
is the right answer, IMHO. YMMV, but its your call.
been done on here a few times, and folk have posted good threads about doing it too.

Learn to weld then you can make one like I did! The 3mm plate can be bought cheaply by visiting your local fabricators and buy their OFF CUTS. I found a very accommodating and friendly owner of a business that made tanks! No not the military kind lol and the completed chassis INCLUDING oxy/acetylene was approximately 120 pounds!You really can save if you can do it yourself. Kind regards. Chris
