02 TD4 engine problems - black smoke etc

The maf can be located with reference to the photos on my website. Please scroll down until you find them. http://45zs.info/TD4/Td4.htm You do need to remove the air fitler cover which is a pain and requires a long reach 5mm hex (allen) key. There are 3 bolts (they are captive so no worries...

Its 76k on the cars, so why 48k on the LR I wonder? Ron

02 TD4 engine problems - black smoke etc

A defective maf sensor can also cause smoke and illumination of the warning light. I've had several emails from owners where the sensor has failed and is outputting too high a signal. The engine will idle okay, but as soon as you touch the throttle it starts to smoke. In one case, it was so...

    Maf sensor and power delivery

I was dyno testing my Synergy Tuning box last wednesday and did a run with both maf compsensation and tuning box sections switched off. I amusing a Pierburgh maf sensor instead of the expensive and unreliable Bosch one and it does need a mafam to boost its signal. (PB maf £65, Bosch one...

    td4 dodgy loss of revs

I've attached a photo, the arrow points to the general area and it's under the intake duct. You can get you hand in from the right, but it would be easier with the duct removed. One or two 75 owners have found the sensor to need tightening up as well, in once case it was so loose fuel had been...

    td4 dodgy loss of revs

One other thing to try is cleaning the contacts on the fuel pressure sensor. If these are dirty strange intermittent power fluctuations occur. Ron

    td4 egr valve

If you've clocked up a good few miles. I would take it off and clean it. There some photos of mine on my 75 page (same engine) here: http://45zs.info/75Zt/R75home.htm#SM This after 99k miles and I noticed the difference! Ron

    Tuning box

There's no need for me to comment....I can show you plenty of feedback like this! You also get a 30day money back guarantee if you don't like it and a 2yr warranty. It plugs in in a few minutes, and is equally quick to remove if you need to. If you cliick the 'me' button on that Ebay page, there...

    Tuning box

That's fair enough, I haven't taken your comments personally, but your blanket dismissal of plug in tuning products merited a response. I would say that the prices charged for some of these bear no relation to the cost of parts used and in that sense many are poor value, especially if they...

    Tuning box

£3 analogue tuning boxes may well be "rubbish". You need to use digital technques so you can control, the fuel more accurately (as is used by my Tu3 and Synergy). However, its ridiculous (& unprofessional) to slag off "plug and play options" - it just sounds like sour grapes. Remaps can...

    Tuning box

I second that, though as manufacturer of a very effective (& sensibly priced) tuning box for the BMW diesel engine I'm a little biased. I wonder whether his aversion to 'plug and play' tuning boxes is because he does remaps? Personally, I would never go back to a none adjustable tuning product...

Mafam & TU3 Tuning box - all my fault!

Because any tuning uses up the over-engineering / safety margin built in by all manufacturers, it is advisable to less than the maximum increase when the engine is working hard continuously. This would be when towing depending upon the load being towed and the terrain or under arduous...

Mafam & TU3 Tuning box - all my fault!

The L series Tunits are not very sophisticated being analogue. Nor is my Tu1 but works as well (better by the sonds of it in your case Tinytdi!) for a lot less dosh. It would be unprofessional to comment further on the prices chargerdfor other tuning product, so I'll just end by saying that I...

Mafam & TU3 Tuning box - all my fault!

I don't know what's in the Tunit, but I'm surprised its unpredictable. For that sort of money it should be perfection. The sdi boxes are analogue so there should not be any such behaviour and mine connect to same wires and operate on the same basic principle. I have never ever had anyone...

Mafam & TU3 Tuning box - all my fault!

In the vast majority of cases a Mafam MF75 is all you need to restore your driving enjoyment! Its relatively rare for the maf sensor to fail completely. Should you buy a MF75 and then later need to change to a Pierburgh maf, then I can upgrade the MF75 to a MF75p by retro fitting the air...

Mafam & TU3 Tuning box - all my fault!

Yes, I agree 30k miles and it's in need of a mafam. Bosch have a lot to answer for, though thanks to them I sell a lot of mafams, and Pierburgh sell a lot of mafs, and Bosch just get a bad name! I think any diesel with Bosch maf and Bosch injection suffers, Vag, BMW & Nissans certainly do...
