Thanks Rob, You inspired me to take to bits and have a look. Its a very simple switch, and mine had plenty of black tarnish with some green verdigris on the contacts. So, bit of a clean with 1200 grit, put it back together - gonna try it tomorrow.

Yep, the battery earth strap was loose and on close inspection looks pretty poor. Got it started but new strap terminals and cleanup tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Yep, its the diff lock - don't know why I said 4WD as its always 4WD. I've never seen a light on such an early Disco dash so was wondering if there is one. I've seen it light up on a Disco 1 post face-lift dash though.
