Look at how nothing has grease nipples these days. Over in the States they still get them even on cheap ****e track rod ends and stuff.

The VCU is a "sealed for life" unit, and I'm under no illusion that it was sold to LR as lasting "the life of the vehicle." And that's true, because when it 'splodes the IRD or diff, that's usually the end of the line for it :D

It's a catch 22 tho, innit. Do I spend the £250 on a recon VCU and bearings and call it an insurance against the IRD or diff 'sploding, or am I throwing money away? Bottom line, it's a VCU with 120K plus change on it. It bugs me not having a clear way of knowing when this hits EOL. IME tho...

Well the system is seeing an issue for sure. But since it's intermittent then that could be a pain to trace. The issue could range from a dodgy connector, bad ground, to a failing module. Does it have a third party stereo fitted? Is there any sign that the dash has been tampered with? If...

The P1470 code is pretty generic and can be anything from a leaking vacuum line to a knackered turbo. I had one back in November and it was a cheap fix. The vent solenoid filter had got water in it.

Have you replaced the turbo solenoid filter (the one that looks like an old fuel filter)?

Off the bat it sounds like a classic gummed up EGR valve.

Did the turbo solenoid vent filter get replaced at the same time?

Assuming the money light is actually linked to the EGR bypass, any chance it wasn't bolted down square onto the gasket? Or perhaps the pipe wasn't clamped down fully?

Could be a number of things. There are a load of threads on here relating to lack of power in a TD4 which might give you some direction. Ideally you need to get a code reader to find what set off the money light. Guessing is a road to expensive frustration.

Green death in the connectors. Well spotted and hopefully you've got it sorted. Might be an idea to put some dielectric grease in the connector to keep the corrosion at bay.

I'll have to check what Alldata says about this job ... Land Rover's TOPIx wants you to remove most of the crap off the top of the engine, which seems horribly OTT. I doubt the flat-rate techs do it that way.
