    Clean it up under there with brake cleaner or similar, get all the muck and oily stuff off. Fill the box up, start it and get a good torch underneath and have a good look first.

    I get between high 20s to low 30s normally. On a good run around 35. This is in a fairly rural setting with not much stop start.

    Get it tested. Mine suddenly failed a couple of years back but seemed to charge up OK. Got it tested at Kwikfit (yeah, I know but they'd been really good when I'd been tracing and aircon fault which turned out to be a leaky compressor) and warned it was getting low. Got a Yuasa 640SHD Cargo...

    I thought if it came with ABS as standard fitment then it must be working for the MoT. Also your insurance company may not be happy removing a safety feature.

    Are D4s from that era still at risk from crank failure? That would be my main concern and if they'd find a way to worm out of it because of this service issue if the worst happened.

    If it's LR Approved Used I'd ask them to prove the service history and see if they can explain what you have found.

    Or they treat the car like a "white good". As long as it's still running it'll be fine. And those cord like things sticking out of the front tyre and the blown headlight bulb will be sorted at the MoT.
