Morning All
My TD5 has developed a whine in 5th gear, just 5th gear and it's only discernible above 40mph. All the other gears are fine, and there are no real issues changing in to or out of any gears.
The box has done almost 130k miles and I'm considering replacing the entire box with a recon from Ashcroft. One of the issues is that there's no-one on the Island that can do a gearbox repair that I trust, so I'm thinking that just replacing the entire unit might be the easiest option, rather than go to the trouble of fixing this issue, only for another one to arise shortly afterwards.
Anyway, my question is, if I've only just started to hear this whine, is it causing any issues by continuing to drive it, or do I really need to do something about it sooner rather than later?
