The car hasn't been used for a couple of days and I went to start it this morning - major problem. The glo-plug light never came on. The engine turns fine but won't start. Plenty of fuel. In key position 2 the HDC light is on and also the engine temperature warning light, even though the car is stone cold.

Any ideas?

I will ty the diagnostic unit.

I have changed over relay 5 and 6 and the dash is now normal with the glow plug light coming on and then going off. the engine temp light is off. Whe I try and start it, the engine spins fine but doesn't start. Then the three amigos come on.

I have tried the diagnostic unit and the only fault that came up was an ABS one - 4134 Motor Speed Input (short or broken wire) - Historical.

I cleared this and it doesn't come back.

I checked one or two things with the EMS but I don't know if they are of any importance - Fuel sensor voltage 3.36.

It says the gearbox switch - Low.

The diagnostic for the gearbox doesn't work - it asks for fusible link to be checked. Is that because its manual and the gearbox diagnostic is for manual?

I can hear the fuel pump and have gone through the air purge sequence.

Any ideas?

My wife says do you want me to try. Managing to contain my mirth I handed herthe key. I went out just to make sure she didn't flatten the battery. Of course it started with lots of smoke pouring out the exhaust and no warning lights. If only I had persevered one more time. She has said that starting had been getting more difficult and it has only had runs of a mile or so lately. There are times when I hate this car.

There seems to be a lot of charge in the battery but it has only been doing short trips of around a mile for the last week. I did disconnect the battery this morning and cleaned the 'salt' off the terminal. Perhaps the wife reaped the benefit of that when she started it. It is starting and running well now. I might just charge the battery up to be safe for the morning.

Get it tested. Mine suddenly failed a couple of years back but seemed to charge up OK. Got it tested at Kwikfit (yeah, I know but they'd been really good when I'd been tracing and aircon fault which turned out to be a leaky compressor) and warned it was getting low. Got a Yuasa 640SHD Cargo battery online. Starting was good before, since then it's been effortless.

The battery has been spinning the engine effortlessly but this morning it didn't fire up until the tenth attempt. I will charge it up just to be on the safe side.
