I've got a yard at work with room. I'm wondering if I could make something out of railway sleepers then essentially drive it onto them in conjunction with some ramps. It's not so much the treatment that I need space for it's more the welding as I don't really fancy being upside down on my back...

I've been looking at ramps, but I'm wondering whether I'm going to get enough lift. I want to get under for a full steam clean, stripping, welding and then treating. It feels like I might only get another 30cms. I have a high lift too but I've always been advised not to rely on hydraulic jacks...

So I've started to do some work on my Disco 1 and the more I look at it the more I think needs doing! There's some rust that needs dealing with in the chassis, near side sill and off side inner wing and possibly some in the cross member/rail joint. There's bound to be more than I've found so...

I have a the following bits on ebay if anyone is interested: All for D1 300tdi: HD winch bumper (Warn style bolt patern)...bit tatty! Pro Trac HD steering guard (almost new!) 4 x R16 alloys with 235 style tyres...

So I've clocked up 50 posts. Most of them constructive....I think. Do I automatically get the priveldges?

Just as a matter of interest what do you rate more bilt hamber or dinitrol?

Be interested to do something like this myself to gain some more experience.

I did it 3 years ago. I bought Chris Scott's book along with Tracks 4 Africa on the GPS and local road maps. Never got lost once thank god!

I'll have to check the prices out, I'll be needing to do my 300tdi in the near future!

Thanks for the advice. I think it will need to go to a pro in that case. I'll have a good look about for other signs but so far that's the only chassis issue I can see. Like you say there's bound to be more even if it's just in that one area.

Thanks for the advice and the kind offer. I have a friendly local mechanic who does all our work vehicles on stand by but I'm going to see what happens with heating/cooling a couple of times. Thanks for all the replies....will report back!
