Jacking/Raising/Lifting for work

So I've started to do some work on my Disco 1 and the more I look at it the more I think needs doing!
There's some rust that needs dealing with in the chassis, near side sill and off side inner wing and possibly some in the cross member/rail joint. There's bound to be more than I've found so far....

I've done a lot of miles in her and I'm pretty attached so I'm kind of willing to put the work in to save her and get a few more years.

The work I've been doing so far is fine using HD axle stands and and HD trolley jack (Hubs etc) but I'm going to need to really get under to assess the rust, clean and treat. Probably with Dinitol etc.

I don't have access to a post lift and no where I can install one. Currently she's on 285/75's with a 2" lift so she's high anyway but not enough to get really get underneath and start to do a proper job.

What options do people suggest for lifting a LR up? Even if it's at a sloping angle front/back etc? The less money...or free the better!!!!!

A decent set of sturdy ramps?
TBH my trolley jack is the type which has a high lift adapter on it so that it can work under the axle and with not much more effort I can lift that corner about four to six inches off the ground.
I've found that using a trolley jack under an axle is usually more satisfactory than trying to jack the body and letting the axle hang on the suspension.
Another solution to consider, instead of lifting the vehicle up, why don't you go down? Dig yourself a pit, then you just drive over it.
 
I've been looking at ramps, but I'm wondering whether I'm going to get enough lift. I want to get under for a full steam clean, stripping, welding and then treating. It feels like I might only get another 30cms.

I have a high lift too but I've always been advised not to rely on hydraulic jacks alone hence axle stands, but they only get me about 10cms extra due to the lift kit.
 
I should of course have added that the use of axle stands when jacking a vehicle to work under it is a given and essential for safety.
I can't think of any other way of getting the amount of space under the vehicle that you seem to be looking for without a vehicle lift or a pit.
Many members have successfully treated their own vehicles with Dinitrol type products using just ramps.
 
I've got a yard at work with room. I'm wondering if I could make something out of railway sleepers then essentially drive it onto them in conjunction with some ramps.

It's not so much the treatment that I need space for it's more the welding as I don't really fancy being upside down on my back with a torch 20cms above my face even with protection, it just seems awkward.

I thought this was standard practice for the DIY Land Rover owner.

haha it probably is, this DIY landrover stuff is a bit of a learning curve. I end up spending more money on tools than if I sent to the garage but it's all worth it as it wont be the only LR I own in my life time.
 
To be honest mate, a high lift trolley jack with high axle stands are almost an essential if you are going to do any of your own work on a LR. ebay or Gumtree should get you what you need, without spending a fortune.

I like this idea. Theres a few bits I want to do on my 110 that requires much space underneath, theres a place local to me that sells full size sleepers for £10. Pair of them either side would get it high enough! Would just have to make sure it is adequately secure and wont kill me.
