Defender 90 Now Sold Genuine 300tdi Defender 90 on Car and Classic

It took me a year to find a Defender 90 300 tdi that hadn't been messed about. Good original spec Defenders are increasing in value. Modified motors are a pain to insure, more likely to be nicked and difficult to sell. I wasn't joking or being flip with my post, I would remove the mods, sell...

    Roof top tents...

    £1700. . . . . ! No wonder blinged up lands get nicked.

Defender 90 Now Sold Genuine 300tdi Defender 90 on Car and Classic

It looks like somebody has spent a lot of money on it. If you remove the lift, get rid of the snorkel and winch, delete the spotlights and put it on road tyres, it would be worth £5k.

    Roof top tents...

Looks like a tent......with a vehicle inside. Why? Buy a big tent, put it up next to your Landy.

    insurance + modifications

Bling puts up your insurance because the vehicle is more likely to be nicked. It also decreases the resale value. Factory spec is best.

Would buying a 1996 90 TDI and attempting to modernise be a money pit?

I bought a 1997 300tdi Defender 90 hardtop. I've not 'modernised' it. Adding bling doesn't improve an iconic truck, it just makes it more difficult to insure and more difficult to sell. Buy an old 'un and leave it alone :-)

    LED Headlights

So I could spend a lot of money on headlights to fit myself, that might not pass an MOT and that might be nicked when I already have working headlights. Hmm, let me think about that........ I know........!

    Roof top tents...

Why sleep on the roof? I can't think of anything more uncomfortable, buy a tent :-)

    Roof tent fitting advice

Why would anyone want to sleep on the roof of a Land Rover? What's wrong with a tent?

    Sills, steps & sliders...

Got sliders on the side of my 90, previous owner put them on. Complete waste of time because the fuel tank is lower! Can't be bothered to take them off.

    Chassis replacement cost?

If your 17 the insurance cost will far outweigh the cost of the vehicle plus repairs. If you can get insured!

    Won't change gear

Turns out the hydraulics were fine, the clutch (only 20k miles old) had deformed for no apparent reason. New heavy duty clutch fitted.

    Won't change gear

When I start it in gear it moves and I can't change gear or put it in neutral. It's on the drive, house in front, road behind. Got a recovery organised, chatted to guy who fitted the clutch, he thinks it's a hydraulic problem. I think the seals in the master cylinder are perished. We will see...

    Won't change gear

Just checked the flexi pipe and slave, no signs of a leak or damage to pipework from master. A new heavy duty fork was fitted with the new clutch. Clutch fluid reservoir is full, breather hole clear. Workshop manual suggests hydraulic problem but if that is the case why can I select gears when...

    Won't change gear

I found a YouTube video which suggests it might be the return valve in the clutch master cylinder but there's no description of the fault so it's hard to decide if this is the cause, anybody got advice ? It had a heavy duty clutch fitted 20k miles ago and has had an easy life since then, no towing.

    Won't change gear

When the engine is running and it's in gear, pressing the clutch down does not disengage the gear. In summary, it's stuck out of gear or in gear when the engine is running. Looks like a clutch problem not a hydraulic one.

    Won't change gear

With the engine off I can select every gear easily, clutch works fine. Engage gear switch engine on, car moves but can't change gear, can't engage neutral either.

    Won't change gear

Fluid level is OK. Puzzle that the clutch works fine when engine is off, no sign of a leak.

    Won't change gear

Clutch feels normal, checked fluid, level OK, looks a bit dark coloured, had a new clutch about 15k miles, no problems with clutch in the last three years. I can drive it both forward and reverse but can't change gear when engine running.
