Dave [Si Click], thank you for this link, which in turn led onto other roof tent links. This has answered a pile of Q?'s I had re' roof tents. It'll be a Tuff-Trek unit for me.
Nice. What awning is that?
Looks like a tent......with a vehicle inside. Why? Buy a big tent, put it up next to your Landy.
and will be buying for a two week camping trip to Scotland with #1 son next summer. We're both getting quite excited for this great adventure including an Islay homage to Maurice Wilks and Ian [Land-Rover] Fraser. Have even started route plan already...it's going to be huge fun...
Hi def90man, we'll definitely wave...in fact, you'd be welcome to join us for a mug tea and chocolate bourbons! didn't realise BDF had passed away, but this won't stop us having a great time. Doesn't the granddaughter of Maurice Wilks have a small distillery on the Isle...thought I'd read it somewhere...possibly Ben Fogle's book. Your message is quite timely as have just bought the Tuff-Trek TT02 tent and annex on eBay this evening. With an eBay coupon and Tuff-Trek discount have managed to pay £1295 instead of £1695 which is a cracking price for a new unit...the saving will go towards the fuel bill !!
Not a bad price for an unused one with an annex. But the roof rack needs to go in the bin. Way too fragile for overland use; legs are too thin and 3 legs per side should be a minimum. That thing would not last a day on corrugations, let alone serious off road use.You could have saved a wee bit more on this one ...…...

£1700, indeed...and that's a reasonably priced roof tent. Needless to say, the tent+annex will be kept in the garage when not in use.£1700. . . . . !
No wonder blinged up lands get nicked.
Hi Dave, most tent manufacturers recommend at least three mounting points/cross bars for secure installation. The roll cage has only two cross bars where the tent will be mounted. I may contact Safety Devices and ask them to make an additional cross bar, or go buy some 40/45mm tube and make one myself...could do with some welding practice. This is the cage fitted to mine, you can see it only has two bars. It would be worth seeing what type is fitted to your son's LR... http://www.safetydevices.com/expedi...90+Ninety-1983-1990-3-door-Hard+Top/261/1775/Useful links thanks. You make a good point about the need for cross bars on a roll cage. I need to check with my lad that Whitbread are building those into the rack they are making.
