Freelander 1 Need help ASAP Please

Of course the AA said not to drive it - they are more interested in arse-covering and liability than actually helping you. If he hadnt said that and you drove it, never checked the water and killed the gasket you would be straight onto the AA with a complaint. Take it to the garage and waste...

Freelander 1 Need help ASAP Please

So it didnt overheat. Like I say - run it and keep an eye on the coolant level. If its fine, its fine and you can change the matrix at a later date. If it loses coolant you have been unlucky and its potentially done the head gasket. No point in spunking out feck-knows how much changing the...

    Freelander 1 Poor handbrake

err, they are automatic. As said above by Arctic, clean them up, refit the drum and keep pressing the foot brake (quite hard) and they will self-adjust. You will hear the mechanisms ratcheting as you press and release the pedal. Once they stop clicking, they are adjusted, you can then set the...

Freelander 1 Need help ASAP Please

So in the other thread when you were repeatedly told to just bypass the matrix....... Anyway, if the matrix is now bypassed and you didnt massively overheat it and the car is in generally good condition otherwise, it will be fine as it is. Top up the coolant and bleed it properly and keep a...

    Inertia switch

The top button can be black or red. Mine is a TD4 engine but I think they are all the same. Back corner of the engine bay under/behind the electrical boxes. Its bolted to the inner face of the top mount for the shock absorber.

    Air Conditioning

Its a garage job. It will need vacuum pressure checked, dried and charged with the right mix of gas an oil if needed. But if there is no gas in it, there is probably a leak...maybe a loose joint, maybe a dud compressor, maybe a rotten pipe, maybe lots of things. If the system has been empty for...

Freelander 1 Hippo I can NO LONGER USE

The matrix is just a small radiator - water goes in, water comes out. Bypassing it doesnt cause any negative effects for the engine. Very obviously, the heater wont work - will this affect the air-con? I dont see how it possibly could, and so what if it does? its not going to do harm.

    Freelander 1 Tread depth?

No. 2mm difference, which would be averaged out with the older tyre by the diff of whatever axle its fitted to will not make a difference.

Freelander 1 Hippo I can NO LONGER USE

There is no danger bypassing the heater. Use a bit of suitable sized copper pipe from a diy shop. If the car is a lemon, bypass it and flog it through an auction while the weather is hot.

    Injector seals, AAARGH

The copper washer is what does the sealing, but the surface it sits on needs to be microscopically clean. If there is a buildup of carbon where the washer sits in the head then it wont seal properly. Various tools are available to clean or recut the seat where the washer fits.

    Freelander Trailer Camper Conversion

Length has nothing to do with it. He is hardly going to admit its NOT legal is he? After all he wants to sell it.

    Freelander Trailer Camper Conversion

I havent the faintest idea but given a whole one weighs over 1.5 tons unladen, I would bet that the back half of one full of kitchen cupboards and all that other ****e is knocking on for over 750kgs. Probably a moot point anyway. The 750 kgs rule applies to a trailers gross weight ie trailer...

    Freelander Trailer Camper Conversion

Trailers built after 1989 legally require auto-reverse brakes and a hydraulic over-run hitch. The hitch is easy - get one from a dead caravan and build your a-frame around it. The auto-reverse brakes...not so easy. auto-reverse shoes are unlikely to fit into Freelander drums. Solutions...

Td4 - are my shock absorbers dead ??

The bounce test doesnt really tell you much - it was introduced to the UK mot decades ago when cars had trunnions and lever arm shocks. - On a Mac strut car it gives a vague impression at best. Mine is pretty tired I think - Shocks look old, possibly original, so I would like to change them...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Go Go Gadget summer mode. Its hot as balls here with the forecast saying 30+ degrees for the foreseeable future... Likely to stay that way until about mid September. I have the Escort for when it rains and its hardly a major job to re-fit it should I need to. I dont have the silly roofrack...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Exactly as above. I am sure there are probably fancy plastic paints I should have used, but basic satin black from the DIY shop worked fine for me. I gave it a blast with brake and clutch cleaner to degrease it and remove any old dash cleaner residue first then just sprayed a few light coats of...
