Freelander 1 Jeep spacers on a freelander?

You arent wrong, but thats not going to stop anyone. People have been using wheel spacers "incorrectly" for decades. Yes, they are to correct wrong offset wheels, but people use them for the Carlos Fandango look - always have, always will. You arent supposed to use cotton buds to clean your...

Freelander 1 Measuring yer wheel fred

Interesting - I will measure mine tomorrow. I would do it now but the garage floor slopes a lot. I can tell you though that even at correct pressures the front reading is likely to be lower than the rear - my front tyres always appear slightly "flatter" with a more pronounced bulge at the...

    Rust Proofing, Done any?

No, but I have since welded up one other that wasnt as bad but well on its way and I have seen another one locally that has sills that look suspect. The rubberised underseal hides a lot of horrors and I think that quite a few UK Freelanders will have the inner structures festering like that...

    door stay

Use it on the lock barrels as well. The day your key fob battery dies in the supermarket carpark is typically also the day you realise your physical locks are jammed solid because they havent been used in years.

    door stay

Only a moron would use WD40:p But seriously, its great for getting stiff things going again but not a good long term fix. An aerosol of white grease is invaluable for this and a squirt every 6 months keeps things sliding nicely.

    Freelander?

Commuting in a two wheel drive Freelander is like going rock climbing in wellies. Its possible, but there are a lot of better options. For less money you could get a better car, more comfortable, more reliable and without the inherent problems that a 2wd freelander has. If you specifically LIKE...

    Freelander?

A very high number have the propshaft removed to hide transmission problems. Most commonly, improper care ( they really need all 4 tyres the same make and model and within 4mm difference in diameter due to tread wear) means axle speed difference between front and rear overheats the VCU which...

    Freelander?

A replacement IRD and VCU adds up to nigh on a grand for the parts. With a bit of patience you can find a working one for sale for not much more than that one, so no, its not worth it unless they prettyymuch just give it to you - which they wont. OK, thats the worst case scenario for the...

    Freelander?

"Currently in 2 wheel drive. Drive shaft included to reinstate 4 wheel drive." I will eat my shoes if it doesnt have serious transmission problems. It would probably be ok as a two wheel drive runnabout, but whats the point in buying a 2wd 4x4?

    Rust Proofing, Done any?

Take the rear wheel arch plastic liners out. You will need the wheel off and take out the plastic rivits. There is a terrible mud trap in the rear end of the sills.... Also check the sill drain holes are not blocked else they rot from the inside. The rubberised paint on the sills hides rot...

Freelander 1 [SOLVED] TD4 - Crank shaft end float - how do I get rid of it?

Realistic. No point sinking money into a car that going on his previous posts is a raft that has been standing unused for years. Personally I would have sacked it all off and bought another one, but if he wants to do up this car, which he does for sentimental reasons apparently, then IMO the...

Freelander 1 [SOLVED] TD4 - Crank shaft end float - how do I get rid of it?

May as well check the big ends while you have it in bits...... may as well check the little ends while you do that......may as well replace the piston rings and re-hone while you have them out......may as well........ Fuk that. Who knows what else might be wrong with it. Chuck it in the bin and...

Freelander 1 2002 (pre face lift) TD4 Problems and a strange fuel filter query

I have found some confusion with this whole VIN number up to and after thing for my model (2001 td4). Anyway, yours is the same as mine, you need the thicker filter which is a screw-on style that goes on that thing in the engine bay. You have an in-tank pump and a second pump next to the fuel...

Freelander 1 new toys on ebay for frea the freelander

Remote start is a load of pointless bollocks and technically not legal in UK - you cant leave a car with engine running unattended.

    Freelander 1 Tightening the handbrake

Tightening the cable wont help - that is bodging the symptoms rather than curing the fault. Its more likely a problem with return springs on the brake shoes.

Freelander 1 How to open boot from inside?

There is a "Diagnostic mode" of sorts you can enter by fiddling with ignition and foglight switch (sorry, cant remember how to do it - its detailed on here somwhere, I think member Hippo knows the score) that allows you to test various car functions from the driver seat, one of which is opening...

    power to interior lights

I would be careful with that.... In the good ol` days interior lights were permanantly live and had a switched earth through the door pins, so your plan would be fine but the Freelander lights are controlled from the CCU. Personally, I wouldnt be messing with that.
