What have you done to your Freelander today

Yeah, I am considering doing more of the dash....if not the whole thing at least the top surfaces. It wouldnt be too hard to mask off and spray it in situ.....removing the dash isnt too hard, but I am very lazy.

    L series mods

Nice, thanks. How are the basic engine internals at coping with these sort of mods.....has anyone found the limits of the stock stuff yet?

What have you done to your Freelander today

Sprayed the top half of the instrument binnacle in satin black. The beige was a nightmare, going from really bright sunlight to a shaded part of road under trees or whatever threw up a massive reflection of the binnacle on the windscreen....couldnt see anything else. Its much better now.

What have you done to your Freelander today

You are going to have to write up these mods you do chief, I'd be interested to see whats going on, and I dont even have an L-series. Although a Rover might be on the cards when the Escort needs changed.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Changed the front right ABS sensor as its resistance was much higher than the others. The old one came out very easily since it was only changed about a year or so ago....cheap chinese parts strike again. What have I replaced it with? another cheapo unbranded ebay special. Im not a fast learner...

    Diesel injectors

As above, fuel has less lubrication properties these days and the internal tolerances for injectors are astonishingly fine. Add into the mix many people running their cars on the cheapest fuel possible and using cheap, pattern filters which perhaps dont filter down to the same particle size as...

    Terraclean

Yes, there is no doubt that it reduces emissions, but like you say a hell of a lot of much simpler, cheaper solutions will do that too.

    commercial rear box

    same as the others.

    Terraclean

Terraclean is a replacement fuel supply that burns hotter than diesel. At best it has an effect on the injectors, chambers, and turbo, but does nothing for the entire air inlet tract which is where a lot of td4 engine needs proper cleaning (inlet manifold, EGR, intercooler and pipework). Mike...

    steel seal

Before doing all that, get the ACTUAL problem properly diagnosed. It might be the head gasket, but it also might not be. A disinterested AA man glancing under the bonnet and immediately writing it off as the gasket because "they all do that" is about as far from a proper diagnosis as you can get.

3 Amigos - Hints and Tips - Solved (in this case !)

Mine is a 2001 model and the sensors read 1.2 KOhms, with the faulty one reading about 5k. Black plugs, two pins, sensor end is the male side of the plug. Ebay suggests there are 3 or 4 different types around these years.

What have you done to your Freelander today

^^^ thats exactly what I did too. Stupid plastic original thing which cant be bought anywhere (apart from main dealers I assume) and its mounting clips are too wide to take the universal refill rubbers. A quick buzz with a grinder soon gets a standard blade on there though.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Got it up on 4 axle stands for some prodding underneath. Three amigos appear to be caused by one ABS sensor which is showing a resistance much higher than the other three. Clonking from underneath is due to the VCU damper ring coming adrift, which I chopped off and binned and one prop...

    weird EML fault

Meh, its cured itself so I will pat myself on the back and call it a job well done.

    weird EML fault

Strange one.... Since yesterday the engine management light is coming on in a weird pattern. From cold it lights up and stays lit until there is a bit of heat in the motor, then it will light up at anything BELOW 1900rpm and goes out when revs are above this. This happens either under load or...

    Ice/Snow Freelander Advice

I have the synergy2a "ronbox" on mine with the Pierburg MAF and it makes a very large, obvious difference. Improved acceleration times timed on a section of road with it on and off, plus it will go up the access road to the farm in third gear with it on, but needs dropped to second without the...

is this k series block clean enough?

maybe stating the obvious, but I hope you havent turned the crank while the liners are un-clamped?

    interior fan inoperable On 4

The high speed relay is actually located in the centre console down behind the ashtray. Its a pain to get to unless you take the console out. If you know where it is, its just about possible to get hand to it through the left hand footwell, but unlikely you will maage if you havent seen it before.
