I would check the timing just in case as something may have changed and that is a very un-intrusive test. Failing that the gasket may have failed again? What sort of gasket did you fit? I am not sure that a valve stem oil seal would do what you are experiencing. Also, how bad was the head when...

Could be timing on the injector pump? Possible slipped a tooth or the sprocket is lose? Has the timing belt been looked at recently?

We've used Dunsfold and they are really good, but they don't sell swivels as the quality of the last lot they got was poor. Will try the others though, thanks.

See if you have the sediment filter thingy first, you may not. If you do, drain it and see if there is any water. Water and diesel don't mix so it will be fairly obvious. Water in a cylinder in an engine is not best as water doesn't compress and can cause damage. Small amounts will cause rough...

Depending on the model you may have a sediment filter under the chassis in the rear which could have been submerged. It shouldn't have let water in, but it may have. Pop the little bleed screw out of it and drain it, see if there is any water in the fuel.

What does upgraded head gasket mean? Did the head gasket go and you had a different style fitted? If it's just been done, get it back to the garage that did it.

I totally understand, but I just wasn't aware. I just presumed that if a van was insured by the other person for non-commercial use then I would have thought that it would be classed as a car and therefore I would be able to drive it.

But in answer to your question, yes you can replace it with a Discovery one but the cable and mechanism is different so there may be some fettling to get it to fit. Never actually fitted one myself but it's probably not that difficult.

It's a very simple mechanism so it's going to be something very simple causing it to bind. In the top there is a plunger type cam that pulls out when you apply the brake and pushes the pads out into the drum. Make sure this part is clean and well greased and that should be it on the drum side...

I doubt that the vibration will be an MOT issue as they don't take it up the road. But get it sorted as it will eat the UJ's. As said above a double decardon prop from a Discovery 2 will allow for the increased angle from the transfer box to the front axle.
