Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

None whatsoever flat, except that by 'hockey sticks' I presume you mean 'the radius arms'? Having pulled my 1988 land rover 90 to bits, there was quite a bit of slop with those components, as the bushes were totally worn out. But even with everything firmed up with the new polybushes packing...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

As you say, the advice on those threads is to get some weight on there. A variation in geometry should be flagged up, but wouldn't necessarily be recorded by land rover in their workshop manuals. I haven't secured the bolts that fix the radius arms to the axle, so will try and bring the axle...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

On the first link, he has posted two pics. The 2nd pic shows the radius bone connected to the chassis bone. As you said, as the weight builds from above, that will come down and the angle will look right. The 2nd pic shows the problem I've described. I have new polybushes, and everything is in...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

Ok, I don't mean to be awkward, and to be fair I'm the novice and you're all experienced at this. But there is a clear difference in distance of at least half an inch from the radius arm mount on the chassis to the center of the spring pad mounts on the axle. Those mounts (can you see the pic I...

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

This is a rebuild on a new Marsland galvanized chassis, which I was sure is built to the highest standards of accuracy. I ordered a 200tdi version, but my local 4x4 chap saw it and said "why did you order a Td5 one?". Still, I doubt they would change the geometry?

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

That's what I was told. Discovery 1 and early defenders/90. But I have measured the radius arms to the middle of the spring mounts, and the disco ones are longer by 1/2".

Rebuild issues: disco axle on 90

So, tonight I encountered another nuisance issue, with the reconditioned disco axle not matching up to the 90 chassis its going on. The spring mounts are too far forward, throwing off the angle. I'm at a stage where, having welded on a new diff cover/oil pan and had the axle shot blasted, zinc...

Air intake hose, 2.5n/a air cleaner on 200tdi conversion

Thanks for your reply, actually I've realized my problem is not physical, its mental. I'm going to look more closely at the actual setup before making any more daft posts like this. I wonder how many people saw this tonight and thought that I had my brain in back to front?!

Air intake hose, 2.5n/a air cleaner on 200tdi conversion

Thanks, yes I'm aware of the kits or mix and match for the turbo pipes, but I guess my question is this: is the standard air intake hose meant to just bend 90° into the top of the air cleaner box?

Air intake hose, 2.5n/a air cleaner on 200tdi conversion

Hi everyone reading, I've bought a new Britpart hose to replace the old ropey thing that draws air to the standard 2.5 n/a cleaner box. A pricey item, I thought, at £25. However, the thing is pretty inflexible, and it needs to bend at more or less a right angle into the top of the air cleaner...

    Low range linkage broken

My issue is the clevis (part 26 above) is broken, I want to renew it but the pin is inserted with the domed head towards the TB casing, so that it doesn't fall out, clever, but that means its not an easy job to remove the clevis? I don't want to remove the TB, will that rectangular section at...

MOT's tightening up from May this year?

Apparently MOT tests are tightening up from May this year? That's what my local tester said, that another 5 pages of fails are being issued, in an effort to sweep the roads of older vehicles. I guess that means it'll get more difficult for some of us with the older vehicles to keep them up to...

What land rovers are good for..

Lesson learned?? I wonder! I lost control of the vehicle again today, sliding sideways and spinning through 90°! I was driving quite slow, evidently not slow enough, and this time I had two passengers in the front with me. I was taking them to hospital as one had slipped on the ice this morning...

What land rovers are good for..

Yes, I've heard that about the steering wheel, maybe its a more for pre PAS, where you need to be Sylvester Stallone to turn the vehicle? I've also got only road tryes on my truck, and find them satisfactory with woodland work only in as far as I don't traverse any steep inclines/cambers, or...

What land rovers are good for..

OK, I just thought I'd like the experience of a proper off road session with support, I'm not saying I'm keen to trash the land rover, but I guess I'd get all the information in a book...I learn best from seeing demonstrations from others, or making mistakes myself. I'll be honest now, that I...

What land rovers are good for..

Well comrades, ah was glad to own a land rover today, Penzance very rarely gets a proper snow blizzard but this one really took the biscuit. Proper snow, and lots of it! Where saloon cars where readily abandoned on the biggest hill in the area, my lil' truck purred down that slippery incline...

Hi comrades, I'm in cloud cuckoo land, aka Penzance

Thanks! Haynes restoration manual arrived today. Spent the evening reading right through the bulkhead and chassis replacement procedures, the pro's make it look easy... In the same way the movie 'Everest' portrays climbing that mountain as if its just a walk up a snowy hill

Hi comrades, I'm in cloud cuckoo land, aka Penzance

My landy's chassis is in reasonable condition for its age, and I've spent thousands on repair patches, new rear quarter-chassis, and waxoiling. If it lasts a few more years, then that would be ideal, as I'm gonna have it to save for a new galvanized one. Also I need to get a through this...

Hi comrades, I'm in cloud cuckoo land, aka Penzance

Hi Julian, I've been informed that the galvers in Crediton no longer do land rover parts. I've already spoken to a chap in South Wales, he seems friendly and knowledgeable It seems there's a lot of people restoring land rovers now! I'm shocked at the the price people are asking for parts old...

Hi comrades, I'm in cloud cuckoo land, aka Penzance

Thanks John, I've got a replacement bulkhead already from the Cornish Wreckers, its not 3 bad for 220 squid, looks more solid than ones ive seen on ebay for a lot more, but one half of the top panel is a repair, slightly raised with filler around it. I'm gonna have it shot blasted and hopefully...
