    BMW 530d swap kit

Will be using bmw 6 speed gearbox. LT230 transfer and see whats the best option with axles. There's plenty Cummins on LR axles about too and there's plenty people with just 300tdis breaking stuff too so depends alot on the way you drive it i think. The TD5 is a great engine, I'm just kinda...

    BMW 530d swap kit

I'm just abit tired of the TD5 as I want more power and refinement from it. If I go with a different engine, I can just leave my current Defender intact too and sell it on more or less as it is once the new one is built and just use the few little bits from it. The Defender running gear will...

    BMW 530d swap kit

My TD5 is doing about 200-210bhp and its a fully rebuilt engine but I still wouldn't mind abit more from it really and a M57 would be alot nicer to live with everyday. I have one in my X5 and even as standard, it still preforms better than a heavily tuned TD5 I've had TD5s for about 5 years now...

    BMW 530d swap kit

yup, I know he did it but there's a company that did a kit with mounts etc to fit straight in recently. They had an adapter plate too so can't remember if they were using a different box or not

    BMW 530d swap kit

Planning on putting 6pots on it and air suspension. Thwtes plenty Cummins Defenders that have 400bhp and they don't kill the drivers. The M57 is a light engine too, possibly lighter than the TD5 so technically should stop and handle better once you don't drive like a complete idiot. The...

    BMW 530d swap kit

A few months ago, I saw somewhere that did a kit for fitting the bmw M57 (330/530d) engine into a Defender. Kit had mounts and gearbox salter plates etc. Cant remember the life of me who it was though so wondering does anybody know on here? Thinking of going for a 535d swap on my new Defender...

    Electric fans/warped manifolds

An electric fan can be better in deep water too as it can be just turned off. A viscous fan can act as a propeller in the after and the blades can sometimes pull themselves through the rad. The TD5 viscous fan is still better at cooling than the Alisport one though. I was going to get one but...

    Turbo Technics VNT Boost adjustment

When I got mine remapped properly by Alive, It had severe diesel knock under hard acceleration in 1st gear or even reving hard in neutral. Turned the boost down by adjusting the wastegate to be safe but must get a bleed valve and raise the boost back up when I get my nanocom screen fixed so can...

Discovery Box in a TD5 Defender, my experience

Bit the bullet and got an overdrive for mine. Have a Disco box spare but with the 35s, I thought might be that bit tall in 1st. Could always even go one further again then by changing the 5th gear ratio if I ever need to rebuild the gearbox if I feel I've loads of power to pull a very tall 5th...

    Auxiliary retro add-ons

I bought a heated seat kit for about £60 for two seats. comes with all the wiring and relays and two small rocker switches. Got a pair of TD5 Disco 2 heated seat switches then to use to match the Defenders dash. Whole lot was well under a 100 quid while Specific kits for the TD5 Defender were...

Diesel knock when reving after start up

So was chatting to Gary at Alive about it to see if he came across it before. Said he could alter the map a little if I wanted as it could be a little hot in places but first check the turbo in case the actuator isn't opening properly by wedging it open a little and see how it revs then...

Diesel knock when reving after start up

I was thinking it could well be lifters to be honest considering the knock is most evident when giving the engine a hard rev towards the redline from idle. With the big change in rpm then, the lifters can't keep up if not operating perfect. If build up the revs slower, it'll rev all the way to...

Diesel knock when reving after start up

Bit of an update on this. I swapped the injectors with the ones from my dad's Discovery as doing abit of work on that at the moment and needed to do the rocker cover gasket anyway. No change at all, possibly even a little worse with new washers. Put my own ones back in again then (didn't have a...

Ashcroft/detroit limited slip or air locker?

Friend of mine said that he wouldn't recommend Kam as he's had some experience with them and wasn't impressed with them. Reckons ashcroft is better quality.

Ashcroft/detroit limited slip or air locker?

Yep, I'm swaying towards ashcroft atb the more I read up on them. I'll probably change my current front trutrac to a ashcroft down the line too to be honest and sell it on as I bought it built out of a Tomcat and there's a very slight whine in it. Ill stick it in for a year or so and then...

Ashcroft/detroit limited slip or air locker?

Detroit locker worth the extra effort in changing from a later Rover type to Salisbury axle on my 110 though? Friend has a Detroit locker in stock and I think I can get a Salisbury axle handy too that I could fit rather than having to order a ATB diff.

Ashcroft/detroit limited slip or air locker?

Do mean your preference two ashcrofts as in air lockers? And then trutrac in the front and ashcroft locker or atb in the rear. If going air locker in the rear, I'd sell the front trutrac and get an air locker for the front too as it's the front that is more useful to be able to completely...

Ashcroft/detroit limited slip or air locker?

Going getting a pair of lockers for my 110 and not sure if I'll get air lockers or limited slip/atb type. already have a detroit tru-trac to fit to the front that was in my old 110 so could just fit that and ashcroft locker for the back or a detroit locker for the rear with a Salisbury axle...
