Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

I have absolutely no idea what it is . All I know is I have a negative cable end that doesn't seem to be in reach of anything All fuses are good , including the big ones in the engine bay .

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

All changed overnight , of its own accord . The gearbox is no longer live . The relays no longer rattle when I touch the battery negative cable to the pole . No dash lights come on . No ignition . No clue what's happening . Battery is fully charged .

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

I had a guy looking at it today and he thought it was connected right . Anyway the problem persists even with the starter wires off and the wires to the difflock and reverse light switch and gearbox earth wires disconnected . All that's needed for the gearbox to light up is the positive terminal...

It was fine before I removed the battery cables and all the other stuff to change the gearbox . What did I do ? 🤔

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

Thanks for reply . Wondering where the cable should end and not knowing any better I pushed the end of it against the side of the gearbox then connected the negative pole on the battery . Sparks and smoke made me lift it off quickly ! It was the last thing I had to do after replacing the gearbox...

Where Does The Battery Negative Cable on a Defender Hi 300tdi Attach Beneath The Vehicle ?

Hi , as per the title . I have scoured the internet but can't find a clear answer to this . I have attached the cable to the gearbox crossmember top bolt using the first eyelet on the cable but I have no idea where the end of it attaches . And my gearbox is live ! 😬

R380 Input Shaft Replacement Query .

Hi All , I've a chance to get a good r380 box from a D2 td5 to replace the knackered one in my Defender 300tdi . I can use the 300tdi bellhousing and an adaptor on the selector quadrant to refit the Defender gearshift . How difficult is it to change the input shaft of the td5 with one from the...

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

The conclusion to this seems to be a knackered layshaft . It actually has drive to the flanges in fourth gear , not second as I thought . So the question now is do I attempt to rebuild it myself , send it off to be rebuilt , buy a reconditioned box , or look for a good used one ? 🤔

R380 Gearbox Input Shaft Question .

With the r380 gearbox and transfer box out of the car I find I can spin the input shaft freely , regardless of whether it's in high or low or neutral , in gear or not . Except once when I was trying the high low selector back and forth I was surprised to see on one occasion that the shaft...

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

Thanks for that V8 , I've been watching those . In so far as I can tell the Hi-Lo range selector is now working . There's noticeable resistance between the front and rear flanges in the low position but the difference between neutral and high is more subtle . Would that be normal ? Also getting...

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

Just wondering , If the high range wasn't actually engaging and it was still in neutral would that allow me to change gears without using the clutch ?

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

So I had a look at the gear linkages today . First off , the gear lever seems to be selecting all the gears . I could hear clunks and rattles of stuff moving about in the box . The difflock engages well and locks the input and output flanges together . The low range engages and turns both...

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

Thanks Tottot , I'll try that tomorrow . There is something that may be connected to this . A couple of weeks before this happened I tried to change up from fourth to fifth but couldn't move the lever . I pulled over with my foot on the clutch and managed to free it with some effort . It didn't...

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

Just an update on this issue . I pulled the gearbox and removed the clutch . The clutch plate looks like new , and everything else looks good , except for wear on the pressure plate . I also removed the pto cover and withdrew the gears and the splines look excellent . What am I missing ?

    R380 & Transfer Box Balance Point ?

Hi , I'm getting ready to pull out the gearbox and transfer box as a unit from my 300tdi Defender , using an engine crane through the passenger side . Does anyone have any advice on how to attach the sling to get the box to come back as level as possible ? Thanks in advance .

Defender 300tdi Loss of Drive . Help Needed !

I'm going through the nightmare of dismantling the Landy into it's component parts to check the clutch right now . Who would have thought so much crap would have to come off to do a clutch !
