Disco 2 What to look for when inspecting watts linkage?

Rock the car while you're underneath the car with a hand on each of the joints in turn. You'll feel the play as it moves if there is any. Any play = possible knocking noise

SEPERATING BRAKE CALIPERS - WHY IS THIS A NO NO??

It might be because the relevant brake manufacturer & Land Rover didn't believe people could be trusted to torque the relevant bolts correctly on what is obviously a very safety critical part. Bolts were probably tightened to just below the bolts absolute limit in the factory & shouldn't be re-used

    Disco2 head unit

After a bit of memory searching I remembered what I did with the Steering Wheel Controls wiring - as I found a Youtube video explaining that you ONLY need to connect the Key 1 and Ground wires - NOT the Key 2 wire, which is left unconnected. Assigning the various control functions is then done...

    Disco 2 STEREO SYSTEM PROBLEMS

If you've had to turn up the head unit a lot to make it loud enough to hear, the head unit internal amplifiers could be working very hard - which might explain why it's getting hot. What % of max volume are you having to use ? As said, if fitted, the LR amplifier is located under the front...

    Disco 2 STEREO SYSTEM PROBLEMS

Is it wired to play through the OE amplifier (if fitted to yours) & someone forgot to add the wire from the aftermarket unit to switch the amplifier on ?

    Disco2 head unit

I don't understand what you're asking ? You've said you've got it working already and you've got all the wiring diagrams identifying the relevant connections on the D2 and the Kenwood.

Hi does anybody know if any other rover caps fit the disco 2 td5 brake fluid reservoir

I think same style caps may have been fitted to Rover 200, 400, 600 & 800 type cars of a similar age. I did the same thing you're proposing quite a few years ago (Before I developed a helpful wife :)). I think I got the cap I adapted from a Rover 216. Beware there's a fair bit of work to make...

    Disco2 head unit

Anaconda, when I looked there were no suitable aftermarket cables to connect the pre-amplifier aftermarket radio rca / phono output plugs to the d2s din plugs to the d2s amplifier inputs. The din - din connectors are only suitable for a D2 base model without the separate amplifier. Paul

Disco2 TD5 Can only select one gear

Those still sound like problems associated with the yoke & selector. I had similar restricted selections before I re-fitted the bush & lever. Did you check the selector rod / fork would move OK before you refitted the gear stick - to make sure it could move OK ? Maybe the missing bits of plastic...

    Disco2 head unit

Marc, the steering wheel control wires are in the grey big ISO plug on the D2. Pins 2 & 3. I think all I did was try each of the 2 Xtrons steering wheel control cables, key 1 / no 3 and key 2 / no. 5 with each of the LR cables to see which way round worked. It was then a matter of using the...

    Replacement 1/4 rear chassis

Yes. Just be sure that 900mm is enough ! I ended up going with a 1400 mm section & was glad I did when we cut off the rusty section which was remarkably dire even around the damper mountings which you'd imagine were a "high point" on the chassis & therefore not so prone to water staying inside...

    After market temp sensor/gauge?

I got a second hand spare top hose outlet & just drilled and tapped into the side of the flange to allow a sensor to be fitted. Same end result as the Gore item, but a lot cheaper

Next stop is losing all gears and leaving you stuck somewhere. Leave it a bit longer for the full experience 🤣

    Disco 2 front brake calipers

The smaller pistons improve the braking balance between front & rear & reduce brake pedal travel a minor amount.

Disco 2 Gear select bush etc

You're not the first it's happened to :) I never found the missing circlip on mine & it's had a few oil changes since it fell in. Fortunately it's never caused any problems.

    Brakes??

Firstly, is this about your Discovery 2 ? If not, what vehicle ? Secondly, the discs can't be scored by the caliper pistons - they should not be in contact unless the pads are missing. Are you suggesting that the rear drivers side brake pad has scored the disc ? New pads shouldn't cause any...

    D2 suspension questions

Maybe the D2 had more caster as standard than the D1. The D1 axle was RR Classic / Defender based, whereas the D2 changed to the CV type joints. I think most recommendations for the D2 do not include caster correction for 2 inch lift. You can add it, but it will be at the expense of making the...

    D2 suspension questions

You won't need 3 degree caster correction on the front with a 2 inch lift. That's only required for 3 inches and more. I've been running a 2inch lift with standard arms on our D2 for the last 10 years & it steers arrow straight on its own - without any self centering steering damper - just the...

    Disco2 head unit

Most of the wiring is fairly straight forward - just making sure you match the correct wires up - "simples" ;). The new head unit wiring is all clearly labelled, so you then have to get the wiring diagram for your car set-up (Harmon Kardon is slightly different to Lear I think) & work out the...

    Disco2 head unit

A few months ago I fitted an an XTRONS DQS112L head unit with 10" screen Android operating system & Android Auto / Apple car play, Bluetooth, screen mirroring & reversing camera (camera was extra) Definitely not as cheap as some Chinese units. Cost just over £300 in 1 of their relatively...
