Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Hi folks, many thanks for all the excellent advise! All taken on board. Mad Hat Man was kind enough to come over and spend a good hour or two having a go at getting the cooling fan off. It won't budge for the moment, I have given it several soakings in WD40 through-out today and will try and...

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

I have no experience of removing any stud, but reading around the web it seems a lot of people state never to use easy outs as they regularly break off and create a far worse problem as they are impossible to drill.

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Thanks for the advice, I will look at some drill bits tonight to find the toughest SDS I can find, I am quite happy with any form of fix, like you suggest perhaps going all the way through with a size 6 bit and putting in a new M6 bolt and nut. If it was you, would you leave in situ and drill...

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Yes not quite sure how to proceed, my concern is if I try and drill in situ it will be hard to keep the drill bit straight. However if I remove the exhaust manifold entirely I could be faced with more studs in the cylinder head shearing off. Bit of a dilema.. If I do go ahead myself then I...

3 Amigos on after rough ride through snow

Wouldn't be related to the oil in the ECB issue? (The injector harness). I just wonder if the jolting might have pooled a bit of oil in the red plug. Anyway, might be worth checking as simple to do.

Advice please on dealing with a sheared manifold bolt

Hi folks, In fitting the EGR mod on my discovery 2, I have managed to shear off the right side bolt to the exhaust manifold. Despite trying to be careful, I had given the bolts two days worth of repeat WD40 treatment and had the socket square onto the bolt. The left side came out fine, but...

    egr removal bolt snapped ahhhhh

Wish I had seen this thread before I started extracting the EGR manifold studs. I have had the same happen, the first bolt on the left side (nearest the engine) came out relatively easily with liberal usage of WD40 and slow careful tweaks of the ratchet. The right hand side however sheared off...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Cleaned the ECU red plug of copius amounts of oil and ordered a new injector harness to hopefully prevent this occurring again. Doing this instantly cured the M and S error I had from yesterday. Fitted aftermarket non-fancy side runners to aid egress, trouble free aside from failure to remove...

    Non runner to be restored

Fantastic read and I hope (and suspect) you are quietly enjoying this restoration project! One question that's been burning in my mind since page 1... any update on the rats? Have they now moved out, or have you built up a relationship with them based on mutual respect and tolerance of each...

    Hi from Hampshire

Hi folks, I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Discovery II. My first Land Rover. I have been casually looking for an ES spec discovery II for awhile, I test drove a few over the last couple of months but in two cases I was not decisive enough and the cars sold before I had a chance to think...
