    Cam timing

Not a big job. You should ideally get hold of some timing pins. Like these http://www.paddockspares.com/timing-pins-land-rover-td5.html Cam cover will need removing. You should also remove the fan, makes it easier to turn the engine with a socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt. Refer to the...

Best place... Or cheapest :D to get new TD5 injectors

Hi Discodevon! Yes one failed testing. You get a nice printout of each injectors test, four passed. Strangely the one that failed was No2 cyl, I expected No1 to be the culprit as No1 piston had started to melt, as discovered during the stripdown. All five had been rebuilt as part of the work I...

    Coding injectors with nanocom

Other starting problems can be caused by: The Crank sensor (CPS): failing/dirty/bad wiring The starter motor failing, causing electrical noise to interfere with the CPS Poorly installed injectors: The copper fire washers and the mating surfaces MUST be spotless. Mark

Disco 2 no heat & water disappearing

Mines been doing the same for while! But your first and easiest action is to fit a new (ideally genuine £8) expansion tank cap. Mark

Best place... Or cheapest :D to get new TD5 injectors

Probably agree with you there. Exchange ones from a reputable supplier should be fine. The weak £/€ may help your pricing if you did source from the UK though! Mark

    lnsurance warning

It can work in your favour though. My sisters 2010 110 was valued at £20k when she looked at starting a stolen vehicle claim. It didn't proceed as she got the vehicle back. Interesting to see how it would have panned out though. As for going with cheapest insurance, generally you get what you...

Best place... Or cheapest :D to get new TD5 injectors

WOW! Thats a pretty amazing price! For brand new injectors (not exchange?), from a dealer!!! United Diesels were the people who put me onto Merlin. Im not affiliated with Merlin in any way, I just name drop them because the performed well! If you buy recon ones make sure you get a test...

Best place... Or cheapest :D to get new TD5 injectors

Whats wrong with your old ones? Testing costs about £40 ea at Merlin Diesels Exchange injectors are about £130 ea from Merlin Id be wary of rebuilt ones for sale at less than £120-£130 as they can just be old ones cleaned up.

Discovery cracked cylinder head- fix or replace?

Hi Some on here do run TD5s on biofuel so its doable. Some things to look out for, but other forumites, please add to the list! Open the oil cap, look for "foam/mayonaise", sniff as well, indication of head gasket going/gone. Check the oil level, again smell it to check for diesel. Expect to...

Discovery cracked cylinder head- fix or replace?

To follow up on your other questions. The later 15P/16P EU3 engines seem to have less head cracking than the early 10P engines, which I understand was to do with cooling water galleries, but the EU3 engines (anecdotally) seem to have more issues with the injector pockets cracking, usually No1...

Discovery cracked cylinder head- fix or replace?

Hi Yes the AMC head is not a cheap part! But quality wise it seemed to fix the issues that (the later) TD5 heads had, mainly the injector pocket cracking leading to engine run away. It should certainly outlast, or last as long as the rest of the vehicle! If your using the car for work, lots of...

Discovery cracked cylinder head- fix or replace?

AMC is the way to go, if you amortise the cost over the potential usage, its a good investment, but its a fair whack of up front cost!

Yes its alcohol, get the highest % though, some on Amazon is only 50%. Not sure about paint prewipes, not used them.

Discovery - things to look for / avoid

An MOT history check will tell you if its ever failed for rust, hence been welded. Some are still ok, mine is, and its for sale!

Discovery cracked cylinder head- fix or replace?

Hi and welcome! Ive had a similar experience to your ref heads, etc. I also went through the options! Heres my feedback a) Not a bad option, but you must have a chance to see/hear it running first, check for noise, smoke. I would avoid cheap ebay "reconditioned" engines, they can be just cleaned...

Defender td5 with possible headgasket failure

Worth dropping Turners an email to get some comparative pricing. When you come to reassemble your head heres few notes: Fit new valve stem oil seals Ensure the pocket where the injector sits is totally spotless, I used very fine emery paper on a wooden dowel (stick) to clean the mating face...

Well the potential upside for my Sister was, when they looked at starting the insurance claim they realised the car was worth more than they paid for it 6 years before!

STOLEN L146THP GREEN 110 CSW ROOF RACK

My sisters 110 was found 2 miles away two days later. I think the MO is they leave it parked up for a few days to see if its fitted with a tracker, then its off, prob to Europe in bits.
