    3 amigos came and went!!

As Sierra says ^^^^^ It usually starts as an intermittent fault as the circuit board in the ABS pump gradually disintegrates over time. You should have it plugged in though as a failing wheel sensor or hub will throw the Amigos right at you too..... :o

    Lift pump or something else?

I had a problem like this before. It was a blockage in the fuel line. Lift pump failure shouldn't prevent it starting and it should run well without the assistance of the lift pump except when going up hills. That's when you would notice a problem with the lift pump.....Get an air line and...

    ACE Fault

Thanks sierra.....So Nanocom is useless in this situation and Hawkeye is better?.....You say that DCV2 or it's circuit is the potential culprit here. This solenoid is on the valveblock is it not? Thanks for helping.

    ACE Fault

Hi all. I have Orange ACE light on and Nanocom reads..... FAULT 04-02 DIRECTION CONTROL VALVE 2 CURRENT OUT OF RANGE Would this be a solenoid on the valve block? Thanks all.

    trickle charging

Hi all. Just a quick question. I am Parking the P38 2.5 up for a while and don't want to allow the BECM to kill the battery so, I would like to use one of those solar trickle chargers to keep it topped up. Have any of your good selves used one of these for this purpose. There seems to be lots of...

    Front half shaft removal

Sounds like a bar steward alright.....Big difference to a classic or disco 1 simplicity. 5 minute job to pull the halfshaft on them. I can't even see a defined line between the hub and the housing. Sounds like big fun tomorrow. I just hope the offside is a little bit kinder.....

    Front half shaft removal

Thanks Tarphenry. So you are saying that it's actually rust welded to the CV housing. If I get it freed off, will the whole shaft including the CV joint and boot come out?...... Thanks for helping.

    Front half shaft removal

Hi Bladerunner. Thanks for reply. I don't have rave but looking at the setup, I have the four bolts removed from the back of the hub. I don't think I need to remove the stake nut, I was hoping I didn't anyway. Is it possible to pull the whole lot in one?.....I just need to let them out far...

    Front half shaft removal

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone could advise me of the easiest way to remove both front half shafts on my 97 DT. Front diff is hanging out and I need to change it. Have the hub bolts out but it wont stir. I was trying to pull the whole lot out just enough to clear the Diff. Just wondering if...

Loss of drive on 2.5 Auto

Sorry for the delay getting back to this post.....Hmmmm. Some interesting suggestions there guys. I did have a look at the oil level and it was a bit high. He had some local mechanic do a gearbox oil change for him. The mechanic filled it to the top mark without operating shifter. My mate drove...

Loss of drive on 2.5 Auto

Evening all. Posting this for a friend. Was just wondering if there is anything other than mechanical failure which can cause a loss of drive. My mate went through a few deepish puddles last week. He had only got through them when the ABS and TC lights came on. Got home. Parked up for a while...

2.5 Diesel hard starting hot or cold

It is a mechanical pump so I will have to look at that in the proper parameters as you say Wammers.....What would be the simplest way to do this?.... Thanks.

2.5 Diesel hard starting hot or cold

Thanks for all the brilliant info there guys, some very interesting stuff. I did think it was cranking over a bit slowly so I fitted a second battery to see if spinning it up quicker would make a difference....It didn't. It just reduced the starting time to about 5 seconds of cranking so, next...

2.5 diesel hard to start hot or cold

Some very good points there tetsu0san....My suspicion is the original petrol electric pump near the tank is not up to the fuel delivery rate. Like I said, once she fires up the injector pump takes over and sucks the amount of fuel required in order to sustain itself. It also belches out black...

2.5 diesel hard to start hot or cold

Thanks for responding guys.....No, It's an early 1982 4 door classic with the M51 p38 diesel engine fitted. The kits you are referring to are hot start kits to fool the becm into thinking the engine is cold and thus powering the glow plugs to give better hot starting. My issue is different. It's...

2.5 Diesel hard starting hot or cold

Forgot to say that the M51, as fitted to the P38's, has no lift pump afaik and uses and electric pump from the tank, that's why I was asking if the original electric pump for the 3.5 V8 carb engine which this vehicle has, would have the same operating pressure as the P38 electric pump which is...

2.5 Diesel hard starting hot or cold

Thanks for the reply. I have fuel coming to the injector pump as I had fitted a non-return valve the other day because fuel was flowing back to the tank and the pipe between the injector pump and filter was empty. This has sorted the problem of fuel draining away. I would have thought that...

2.5 Diesel hard starting hot or cold

I've only got it a couple of weeks and have been going around it mechanically just trying to sort these issues. It needs a bit of welding but that's for another day. I love the M51 and those that say they are gutless are way off the mark. Standard tune is pretty poor alright but this thing with...
