Evening all. Posting this for a friend. Was just wondering if there is anything other than mechanical failure which can cause a loss of drive. My mate went through a few deepish puddles last week. He had only got through them when the ABS and TC lights came on. Got home. Parked up for a while then went out to hitch on his trailer. Reversed up to hitch and hitched on. Got back in and put the selector into drive and nothing at all. No gears. It hasn't moved since. There was no warnings or bangs etc....Drove beautifully and smoothly before this happened. Another thing that happened is the wipers have come on and wont turn off. Anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks all.

Have you tried all gear positions including low range?
Does the car rock as if it's selecting a gear and trying to drive?
Does the engine rev whilst a gear is selected?
Does the dash show the correct gear selected?
Has he taken the handbrake off? :D
As for the wipers that could be many things, more investigation needed.
Is the driver's floor wet?

Has the oil level been checked?

Anyone put a fuse in position 11? Maybe it's gone into transfer neutral as a result of getting wet. Try selecting Low range and see if it operates.
wipers sounds like BECM, is the carpet wet in the drivers footwell?

Sorry for the delay getting back to this post.....Hmmmm. Some interesting suggestions there guys. I did have a look at the oil level and it was a bit high. He had some local mechanic do a gearbox oil change for him. The mechanic filled it to the top mark without operating shifter. My mate drove it for approximately 20 miles after the oil change before the deep puddle/problems occurred. Datatek, transfer neutral was something I thought about, even though there was no message on dash. I tried to slide the shifter across to low range and succeeded once. From what I remember this manoeuvre should be very easy but wasn't. The low range message didn't appear on the dash and I listened for the transfer box motor but I couldn't hear it. The engine note changed slightly when I ran through the gears and the most horrible grating sound happens when the selector is pushed back to park, like changing a manual gearbox without depressing the clutch or, like going through the gears on a manual gearbox with a poorly engaged transfer box. I will have to have a look at that fuse and check the transfer box motor.....

Cheers for the heads up lads.

Flex plate is another possibility:eek:

Theres a drain plug under the motor on the bell housing you'll see a round bit with 3 8 or 10mm bolts take this off and you can see if tourqe converter is turning and the triangle metal plate the flex plate is turning the tc. If it is the flex plate easy enough job really just the gearbox and transferbox weigh a lot
