While you've got easy access, line the cam pulley up exactly with the pointers and then mark one tooth at the top of the pulley and then a corresponding mark on the timing case. Mines done with tipex and it makes life a lot easier when you come to do the cam belt next time.

Ok, just had another go at it. Couldn't move it, so revved the engine until I saw it move. It didn't move much, but it moved and it wasn't at full revs.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I found the rod and the bit of metal it's fixed to, which is what I tried to move. I couldn't move it at with my fingers and even when I pushed on it with a bar, (tried to push the square of metal to the back of the engine to lever the rod), it didn't budge. Edit...

It runs on my home made bio diesel, which definitely performs better in warmer weather than cold. But we haven't had ant really cold weather this year, so can't put it down to that. I haven't got a clue about waste gates? I wouldn't even know where to look. If it's seized, is that a bad thing?
