Sadly the law doesnt care - if your mate has taken your vehicle somewhere he shouldnt then - well.... it's still your vehicle that gets slapped with the notice and your headache. :( But if hes on a legal route I'll come drag you out no worries.

Picking mine up tomorrow. Got my 3/8 sockets today though, they look pretty good quality.

They don't deliver the end of line stuff at all. They also have a set of 3/8 sockets for £6. It's not bad this - I have a 1/4" set and all bar the ratchet for 3/8 now for under £20.
