LPG Vs MAF no winners... I Need Someone With Experience

Absolutely! Not cheap, but they work properly. Same with Lambdas, buy Bosch every time. Peter

LPG Vs MAF no winners... I Need Someone With Experience

We found that our Discovery V8's ran well with 30 thou gaps on the double platinum plugs, but the combustion heat tended to open the gap by distorting the ground electrode. I think we run Champion plugs, ours are OEM numbered 7318, we get 60K+ miles out of them. Peter

    P38A 2000 4.6 Vogue - Manifold Heat Shields?

Tidy job, mine are still on the engine, so access might be an issue. Peter

    P38A 2000 4.6 Vogue - Manifold Heat Shields?

I've got some wrap material, just wondering why it's necessary, given that the Discovery V8's with a smaller engine bay and cast manifolds don't have heat shielding. Peter

    P38A 2000 4.6 Vogue - Manifold Heat Shields?

I had to destroy mine when we did the heads as the bolts were rusted solid, so do I need to replace them, or is the car safe without them? Alternative is exhaust wrapping the manifolds. Thoughts please. Peter PS: We've done 170 miles, new oil and filter, new battery negative cable.

Towing a caravan with disco 2

6-wheel drawbar turntable trailer, Brian, there's a link in my signature to the build blog. I think it is all working, we had a hosting change from a Windows server to Linux, and Linux is case-sensitive, so some sections weren't working. If you have problems, use the USA mirror site...

Towing a caravan with disco 2

TD5 should cope, although being automatic doesn't help. Manual box has 5 speeds, auto only has four. We tow 3500kg regularly, but with a V8, that extra grunt makes a big difference at the top weight. Just bought a P38 Vogue 4.6 which is auto, be interested to see how that copes. Peter

I've got new separators if you have trouble finding one. I had to buy a pack of 10. Peter

Changed the coolant to 'proper' 50/50 OAT today, had three goes at venting, got the air out eventually. Trimmed one of the Jubilee clip tangs off while I had the water out. It was too close to the fan. New battery negative cable going on tomorrow. Gave it some beans going over to the...

At last! DVLA sorted the RFL, insurance was already in place and the MOT is good until July 2018, so a quick run out to get some petrol and see if it overheats. First impressions are "Christ it's big!" been driving our Astra hatch since the Discovery 2 went off the road, so transferring to a...

    P38A how hot is hot?

Yes, taking the rocker cover internal oil baffles out only involves 8 self tappers, and there is usually plenty of hard deposits behind. Peter

    P38A how hot is hot?

LPG is a hotter running fuel, but your cooling system should easily cope, my V8 Discovery runs at the same temperature, LPG or petrol, just to to the right of centre on the gauge. Peter

Arrived this morning, genuine boxed gasket set, replaces our one we used on the Rangie. Still got three V8 D2's out there, must get one of the spare head sets away for checking. Peter

    P38A Changing pistons & crank

Pretty much an engine out job if I was doing it, crank, pistons and rods I believe are different, most everything else is the same. At that stage I'd be tempted to take the block to Turners and get a new cset of liners fitted. Apparently cracked blocked are recoverable when top hat liners are...
