    Brake fluid Td5

Its just a drilled aluminium block with a load of solenoids linking the brake lines and of course a pump. Yes the brake fluid circulates within the abs unit

    Restoring rusty bolts

Re-using old bolts!!! I'd use new ones. If they are non critical I suppose i'd soak them and clean them on the wire wheel of the bench grinder.

Blown head gasket on Disco 300tdi ES

Its got to be a maintenance failure. Not had a 300 but the 200 could withstand all manner of abuse and still keep going. Bloody simple engine to rebuild from scratch. Did mine for little money but that was just to ensure the 250k miler was still good and it was. Someone has a blinding motor...

    WHICH Disco...?

Not fully on the case with this bioethanol replacement but I do understand that it takes on water and this produces acids that attack seals and pipes, fuel tanks, etc. Its going to take some time but is a very real issue. Its probably not the E10 but the higher percentages that will become the...

    Discovery 2 / 3 / 4 Advice please

I like to keep it simple but as you say the 200 or 300 tdi is not going to give you what you want. There are still some very nice D2s but you have to search for them. I wouldn't want anything more complex than the D2 Td5 I have because I like the fact that I can fix anything relatively quickly...

    Garage recommendation around chester/ Wrexham?

Well to be honest I do all my own work but people I know have had their 4x4 serviced there and had no issues. I use them for parts and occasional advice and couldn't fault them in that regard.

    WHICH Disco...?

What about when we all move to E10 fuel. Apparently they have E85 in europe too. These old cars are going to need some sorting or special fuel.

    WHICH Disco...?

Yeah but I suppose we all miss the old Tdi, especially the 200 because that was so so bullet proof a motor. Td5 is a nicer motor when its right but the 200 never missed a beat

    WHICH Disco...?

The TD5 at 4500Euro looks like it has no sunroof. This is a major plus and should ensure no rust in door pillars, etc. Looks an honest car and decent colour. Price is still a little steep though. What has it had done? 1) Head gasket and dowels changed (a must) 2) Oil pump bolt sorted 3) ABS mods...

Disco 2 Looking at buying one

Depends what you buy a big 4x4 for. I like things as simple as possible and the D2 is as techy as i'm prepared to go. Easy to fix and maintain and the road tax is reasonable if you have an early one like I do.

Prefer a D2 though, every time.

    Lockheed caliper seals

Often split motorcycle calipers during restoration. Seals are usually only small O rings recessed into the face of one half and over the fluid drillings joing each half (if you have opposed pistons). Specific brake fluid resistent O rings can be obtained easily but you must use only those that are.
