Try sitting on each seat in turn jump up and down in the seat.....seriously you mite feel a fool but it sometimes works. Without a gap tool you will not be able to turn it off but as you say "it goes off then on" try the seat trick

If your ace pump was in good order and off a petrol I would have bought it as a spare so you could recoup some of the costs of conversion. You will also need to adjust the ccf file in your car to non ace or the dash will light up light an Xmas tree and won't pass its mot. If you need any more...
