Congrats. :) Hopefully the MOT'er good sprit will extend to saturday as got mine then after 4 years of sitting on the drive due to family getting in the way. Really looking forward to driving her again.

I have just realised we are not talking about the same thing. I was meaning exhaust downpipe (agree the title is not clear) Did wonder how fixing an exhaust pipe with cable ties would work, OK whilst cold :D Can you offer any advice for the how to get the exhaust downpipe over the gearbox...

I've cracked it. LR dont seem to do a belt for this alternator so went to my local motor factors and brought a 1m V belt which fits perfectly. Will let you know how this alternator performs once i get her back on the road

Alternativly fill through the breather hole. Will be slow process though and you cant check the level. The felt seals are rubbish. I always push them well in and put some sealant between them and the half shaft nut washer for good measure

found the problem as jamesmartin said there is an o ring on top of stat. mine had become one with the rust. I've dug it out, replaced with a new one and at first there is a gap between casting buts o ring compresses and gap closes nicely once bolts tightened. Thanks everyone for your help

hi guys thanks for the response. didn't sound right to me either i'll post some pics later. I dont remember having any issues with my diesel stat. scraped out the groove. do u guys put an o ring on top of stat. if so my problem just got bigger

Hi Guys, Am completely rebuilding a 2.25 petrol engine and have got round to fitting a new stat. When i put the stat in to bypass casting and placed the top hose casting in top without o ring there is a gap between the two casting, is this normal :confused: I haven't even fitted the o ring...

Yep that should do it, worked over my galvo door tops and paint is still stuck on after 10 years, which is more than i can say from some of the alu panels :)

Its gonna be a big job!!! As Dr Evil says make sure it's sound and cleaned up inside and out. I would get it shot blasted. Also when its done you may want to spray over it so as not to reduce risk of it being nicked. If you do let me know as you need to use special primer but i cant remember...

Sometimes days you just wish u never started a job. Have you bleed both sections of the pump? there are two screws on the side. but to be honest I never got anything out the upper screw. you can also crack off the pipe to each injector whilst someone else cranks it over. however if you keep...

I would go for tappet slider as well. I had a valve stick momentarily once and it knocked part of the slider seat off. Good luck with the rebuild.

thanks james I had heard that. i've never driven a petrol s2 so wouldn't know f it made any difference when I finally get to drive it. have taken out a diesel to swap for this petrol lump
