    P38A Fitting parking sensors.

Just before the blue oval closed down my section of the British company they appointed a new CEO to get the company out of the financial sh*t it was in. Guys name was Mullady and - you've guessed it - he came to the company from Boeing full of great plans to turn the company around. Pretty...

    P38A Brake pad change

I usually use a clamp - C clamp for wood working with plastic jaws to put pressure on the pistons then crack the bleed nipple as I tighten the clamp - or some one tightens the clamp, closing up the bleed nipple as the piston is nearly in. The rest of the movement can go back up to the master...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Alas today was a day for tears of frustration :( New front disks and pads and a replacement rear ABS sensor arrived from Craddocks. When I ordered the sensor it said make sure you order a sleeve as well. On opening the package I find the sensor came with a sleeve (and grease) so I now have a...

best servo brake light switch to buy?

I went through 2 Intermotor ones - each lasted about 3 weeks. Finally got an OEM one in a Landrover box and so far - touchwood - it continues to work well. The position of the switch is a pain as, if you reach into the engine bay on that side for any reason, the tsgs end up getting "flattened".

    Odd engine failure

This is true in hindsight, The deterioration was progressive enough - and the annual mileage low enough - that it wasn't obviously happening. Don't forget this is a FFR version too - the back is full of radios plus another 4 heavy batteries to go with the two in between the front seats and the...

    Odd engine failure

Strange thing is there was no apparent lack of power. - empty or loaded the old bus ran sweet as a nut up to the moment it all went pear shaped on the M3 :)

    Odd engine failure

A rebore is certainly to be done on the next one - the engine came out just after I bought the Landie on 2006 - main bearings failed within weeks. and, at the time it was a quicker fix to just replace it. So that engine has sat beside the garage, despite the frequent attempts by uninvited...

    Odd engine failure

As long as this one lasts me another couple of years whilst I rebuild another completely I will be happy. The bores were honed to glaze bust them and let the new rings bed in properly. Thus far - 200 miles on - all seem to be OK! I should have said - the compression test was re-run once it...

    Odd engine failure

Back in Oct 2014 I was heading down the M3 to pick up a Sankey for a friend in my Series 3, Needed to come of at J9 and as I approached the slip roads the clonk, clonk clonk of a flat started up. Pulled over onto the hard shoulder to find the n/s front was flat. Changed it over and went to...

    My little fleet....

Cheers folks. Last year was a fun one for the two old vehicles - the Series got 4 flats attending the NEC in October, Running Michelin XCL's on tubes because I could not get the original Firestones or Deestone copies for love or money. I think the tyres are abrading the tubes so I am going...

    My little fleet....

    P38A P38 locked out

Many thanks - I'll remember that part about opening the door after 2 attempts. :) You are right about the remote locking unsynching through the mechanic wandering around the car pressing the button - again hopefully that won't happen again because I have now reconnected the aerial to the...

    P38A P38 locked out

Yes, I guess that is a possibility. I made sure that I turned the key fully through 90 and the back to centre every time but if the key is worn to excess..... If it ever happens again I'll get the OH to bring key #2 out to try. That was a problem on the day as it had gotten lost by falling...

P38A Guidance please - rear ABS sensor

Thanks folks. Ordered the following parts from Paddocks - bit of a wait as the ABS sensor was special order with 1 to 2 days waiting time: * Kit, Mintex Front Disks & Pads - part number BRAKEKIT7M * ABS Sensor - Rear from VA346794 - Part number STC3385 * Bush for ABS Sensor - Part number...

    P38A P38 locked out

Wow - that's a complex lock mechanism!! With my issue - key #1 would unlock the drivers door OK. Every other door remained locked which I believe is what is meant to happen. However the vehicle would not accept the EKA code using this key at all. I think I must have tried 5 times before...

    P38A Parking sensors

Indeed - it is on the list of things to do. But rather low now the flat batteries have stopped :)

P38A Guidance please - rear ABS sensor

Thank you all. I downloaded RAVE last night, not had a chance to look into it yet. Yes - the lights are on constantly regardless of road speed. Everything else is working OK - got a pulse through the pedal on braking at low speeds which probably explains the "hot spots" reported on the front...

P38A Guidance please - rear ABS sensor

After going through the MOT last Friday our P38 came back with a couple of advisories - one of which was an intermittent fault on the left-hand rear ABS sensor. We have the ABS and TCS light on all the time an then the guy tested it he plugged his diagnostic unit in and managed to turn the...

    P38A P38 locked out

Embarrassing as it is to admit - I had this last Friday. P38 went into a new place for it's MoT and I told the tester the aerial on the locking receiver was disconnected so he had to stand by the O/S/R door to unlock it.. He forgot and wandered around the car continually pressing the key fob...

    P38A Parking sensors

A belated entry - our P38 had them fitted when we bought it. And was suffering from a flat battery if not used every couple of days. We had to jump start it so often we caused problems with the BECM - so bad that when you started it every single alarm on the car went off and we had to put the...
