Just been out and checked the VIS, and found the balance motor full of oil (although working fine) and the butterfly motor with a burnt out patch on the circuit board, the question i have now is do i get a fresh manifold complete or do i just get a new butterfly motor, what causes these to fail...

Thanks, The throttle body on my engine is a single butterfly type made from alloy. Is there anything in the manifold that gets contaminated by oil? there was quite a bit inside, the MAF lookes clean btw.

Thanks, the engine seems quiet when ticking over, with the vis motors removed the butterfly in the plenum seems very stiff initially when going from closed to open. Is there a way of testing these motors? or can the butterflies be removed completely perhaps?

I have just bought a 51 plate 5dr, 2.5 v6 freelander, it was purchased as a non runner. Basically the thing will start and tick over fine, but when i press the throttle it refuses to rev past 1800rpm, the throttle linkage works fine and the vehicle has had a new TPS fitted, and is not showing...
