Hey!

I have a -99 P38 DSE

Today morning i noticed the car had locked the doors by itself.
Tried opening with remote, nothing happened.
Opened manually with the key, and the door locks it self back.

I quickly jerked the door open and got in, and the car is totally mute.
Instrument panel does no light up at all, alarm light is flashing, beeps when key is inserted and stops when key is turned to position 2.
And a slight ticking sound under right front seat.

I disconnected the battery and tried again little later, and got the same results.
I had to leave to work and left the car with the battery disconnected.

I need some advice, is the BeCM locked now or what might be the problem?
Got the car couple of moths ago.

Sounds like an almost flat battery. They do strange things as the battery volts drop below about 12.4 volts

I'd agree on the battery. Even if it charges to 12v and over have it checked for it's health and capacity. If already a good healthy battery then a possible battery drain situation could be causing issues. Have the battery checked for capacity and go from there👍

Alright, hope its only that.
i'll pick up a new battery on my way home, since current one seems old.

I was thinking about disconnecting the RF receiver.
What i read its a common problem with draining batteries.
The lock motor on passenger door doesn't work anyways so i have to lock the doors manually.

Ended up being just a dead battery, hehe...
Had to run back and forth because the first battery i got had the terminals on opposite sides...

Also my neighbor had noticed that my interior lights were on last night.
Might have something to do with the faulty locks, i'll have to look into that next..

Interior lights may have come on as the battery went flat due to the BECM losing control.
Hope you charged the new battery before fitting it.

Hey! Now i had the great idea to change the language on my car to english, since its an german imported car.

Now the car cranks but wont start.

Earlyer it had fault code engine disabled or immobilized or something like that.
Now it gives me no codes...

The key works and locks and unlocks etc.

I have a launch diagnostics tablet...
I dont know the EKA code.

Car is -99 p38 dse automatic

Please help..

Oooh, have a look through the hand book if you've got one. Somebody may have written it down🤔
If not, God knows how to get it.. Another box will know better than me. 👍

With launch diagnostic you can change the market to: NAS, norway, switzerland, uk, canada, germany and "rest of the world". And with the rest of world you can select "EKA/Passive" to - not fitted.

I tried swithing back to german and selecting the EKA/Passive not fitted etc.

You can also do ECM/security re-config.
Tried that too.. no dice..

I get the key remote working and the vehicle cranks without the "engine disabled, press remote" error.

But it just wont start.. 🤔

Sounds like it needs the engine immobilizer code from the ecu writing to the becm. if they dont match it will turn over but not start.
Sounds right.

This can be done with nanocom etc at home or at a dealership?

I tried security immobalizer re sync to te ecu with launch but does not seem to work.

Nanocom is ideal. Needs to be correct one for your model. P38 is not obd2 compliant so lot of diagnostics will translate the codes to nonsense. You are risking turning your vehicle into a 2.5T paperweight messing about with those settings. Nanocom website (blackbox) has an emulator you can use to learn the ropes without the risk.

You do have the EKA code?

If the dash is not asking for the EKA code then I doubt it's that. As Brian said, needs a security re-learn, read the code in the EDC and write it to the BECM.
Cant do that with the tools i got..

Luckily found a nice guy in finland with edc nanocom, willing to lend me his unit!

I will get that later next week, hope i get the thing sorted and not end up with a yard decoration :D

Be careful with the Nanocom, do not start the engine with it plugged in, do not unplug it unless it's at the home screen, either of those actions could scramble the Nanocom firmware.
