Series 3 2.25 Diesel 88" Front Leaf Springs

I've done the same thing a few times now.
As a species we seem to be losing the ability to make quality spring steel.
The technology was perfected about 200 years ago, but apparently we can't get it right now.
 
Once you get spring off , then either Couple G clamps or put in vice and there is a both goes through middle about 8mm you can buy the part or use an 8mm Allen bolt , I’ve done both
There is the clamps around springs to remove too just open up with chisel/ big screwdriver to release leaves
Undo nut on said stud then relax vice or clamps to separate leaves.
Mini grinder with cup brush to clean up
Paint and reassemble in reverse

I snapped one of the clamps but made a new one out of some black bar 25x5 mm ?

The clamps fit to springs with a Roundhead rivet 3/8” from memory
I bought the vehicle as someone else's failed project and I have spend slot if time correcting things that just wasn't right mainly bolt just finger tight or things just installed wrong so changing the springs get me back to a known state also it means I get to play on the landrover a bit longer 🤣just a shame it's not the warmest.

I see that in post #16 you state that you've ordered new OEM spec springs from Paddocks.
I've had a few of these, I'm sorry to say that the quality can be variable.
Generally speaking, if they look right when you first fit them, they will be good for the next ten years at least.
If the vehicle don't sit right, take them back straight away.
Paddocks state "UK Made"
But the trade description laws in the UK are notoriously lax in this respect.
I can remember watching a documentary about the UK cutlery trade.
Stainless steel blanks of knives, forks, spoons, etc are imported from the Far East by the container load.
After undergoing a series of intensive automatic polishing operations, they can have "Made in England " stamped on them, and it's all perfectly legal, because of the amount of "work" put into them by the polishing and packing.
 
Good Afternoon, all

So I got up early this morning before the weather turned and popped on the driver's side front spring.

See attached it's lifted the vehicle about 10/15mm.

I stood the old and new spring next to each over and height wise they was basically the same but the difference I saw was the old spring I could pushed down about 1/2 inch by hand where the new one didn't budge at all. One other thing to note was if I tapped the old spring it sounded hollo where the other sounded more solid metal not looked to see if anything is broken yet.


Update just had to get something out the truck and it feels solid now like there is no give in the spring. I assume after I have changed them both and done a few laps they will bed in abit but concerned that I will end up with them back up against the chassis

Nice one, that angle on the hanger looks more like mine now, be interesting to see if there was a broken one among the leaves
We’re the springs labelled so you could put the correct side on

Yeah they had part numbers on but I also double checked the one with the most camber went on drivers side same as did when I fitted the rear.

Good evening all

So tonight I managed to knock off work early and it wasn't raining so nipped out and swapped the other spring.

Left shackles loose took it for a drive round then parked on nice flat ground check the suspension height and talked it down. it was 114mm from chassis to axle.


The gap between the chassis and spring has closed up a little but at least there is a gap now, I'm not sure why it is like that but assume I just have to live with it.

Rides so much better now as well I can't believe the difference it no longer rolls around the corners.

Nice one, they do rust quite quickly, I wish I’d put some wax oil or similar on mine just after I fitted them, good when you don’t bounce out of seats going over road ramps

I have lanoguarded them since I took the picture earlier inuse it on all the chassis inside and out and it works bloody brilliantly.
 
The council have conveniently installed speed bumps all along the road where I live, maybe 200 yards apart.
Plays havoc with series suspension at about 20 -25 mph.
But if you speed up to 40mph (30mph speed limit) it actually takes them better.
And hopefully keeps my springs from seizing with rust
