So i have got a salisbury axle that fits a series 3 but its got huge brakes. My brake setup is disks on the front and 10 inch drums on the rear as is normal. Can i put 10 inch brakes on the salisbury axle . I dont want to lock the rear brakes up when braking hard . The disks realy do work very well. thanks

It is possible to keep the 11 inch drum brakes on the rear. They're better than 10 inch as they have an an adjuster on each shoe which reduces pedal travel. What I have done on several vehicles is to remove 2 inches of lining material on the leading shoe of each side. This reduces the inherent self servo effect which makes the rear brakes "less effective". You can also fit a smaller diameter wheel cylinder but I forget from which model.
